Help: Posting in Irish

Subject: Posting in Irish Gaelic

I have notice that a number of 'catters have the ability to post messages in Irish Gaelic (I'll probably be reminded that Gaelic is more Scottish). Anyway, there are some words that I would like to learn to pronounce, but do not have the capability to type them, except in standard American English. Is there special software that is required, and, if so, can someone direct me to where I might be able to obtain it?

Remember that this Forum uses HTML markup, so you don't need to type in a special font, it's all ASCII, but you use it in HTML markup. About all you need are accents/acutes for Irish Gaelic:

[start markup with '&' and end it with ';'

&[no space-required letter-no space]acute;
for required letter = A one then gets Á
for required letter = a one then gets á

For Scots Gaelic you also need graves

&[no space-required letter-no space]grave;
for required letter = A one then gets À
for required letter = a one then gets à

Thanks for all your suggestions, especially for that prior thread Áine. If George Seto's suggestion worked, I finally put the "fada" over the "A" in your name. Next visit here will tell.

If that worked, it seems that will be easier than using the ASCII number system mentioned by Joe Offer in the other thread. If George's didn't work, then I'll try the &#***; method suggested by Joe. If I still have trouble after that, I'll try adding English (Ireland) through the control panel of my Windows OS, as mentioned by Big Mick.

Well, well, well. As my Dad used to say, now I'm cookin' with gas. I never understood why he said that, since we had an electric stove, and a coal and wood one before that. We never had a gas stove for cooking.

Hopefully, now that you've all helped me on this I just might be able to ask for help in learning the pronounciation of the family's original surname. I intend to post that one tomorrow.

although there are easier systems than the ASCII offered by Joe, his method seems to be safer. when we type in letters using systems such as the alt + 130 = é which works on the computer I'm using, sometimes the letters change disastrously when there are technical changes at the Cat.
