01 Nov 00 - 09:07 PM (#332414) Subject: NM - Sorcha's Computer is @ the doctor's From: katlaughing I was beginning to wonder about why we haven't seen Sorcha around for a few days and was going to email her when I received a phone call from her, this evening. She is doing well, much better than earlier this month. Her hard drive was causing all kinds of problems, so she took it in to be replaced. It could be a few days before she is able to return to the Mudcat. The computer doc, who is a real whiz, is kind of scattered, from medication AND four cell phones for all of his little businesses he runs without the help of a secretary! Anyway, she didn't want any of us to worry. Her daughter, Cait, has solo part with the choir at school, coming up tomorrow night. She will be shining through belting out the "tag line", as Sorcha calls it, to the solo parts in "Obey the Spirit of the Lord!" Yea! Cait!! Thanks, kat |

13 Nov 00 - 08:21 PM (#340133) Subject: RE: NM - Sorcha's Computer is @ the doctor's From: Sorcha Well, hi dee ho. I am kinda sorta back, maybe just for tonight. Doc didn't know what is wrong, so it's time for a 2nd opinion. Any of you techies wanna help? What it does is just freeze up. I never know how much time I am going to have; could be several hours, or several minutes. When it freezes, nothing responds--not mouse, not keyboard, not nada. I just have to push the button, turn it off, and re boot. Usually it has to stay shut down several hours or it will freeze during the re boot. Doc changed the hard drive, and it still did it.......wouldn't even accept new programing, so we put the old hard drive back in, and here we are, for a little bit................... |

Sure have missed you, though! I'll make a sacrifice to the gawd/dess of RAM-ROM of HardDrives and see what we can do!**BG** luvyakat |

13 Nov 00 - 10:02 PM (#340180) Subject: RE: NM - Sorcha's Computer is @ the doctor's From: MMario Sorcha - I know a number of people plagued with this symptom. One one model of compaq it turned out that we needed to "flash" the bios with an updated version. (your tech should know what I mean) - for some of the others we just have to routinely and frequently clean the registry of invalid entries - (we use either reg-clean or easy-cleaner) It doesn't sound like a corrupt registry to me unless when your "doc" tried a new drive he imaged from the old one rather then a clean install. But thought I'd mention it anyway. |

13 Nov 00 - 10:11 PM (#340186) Subject: RE: NM - Sorcha's Computer is @ the doctor's From: Sorcha Mario, it was a clean install. Called Doc #2 and he said that Freeze Up is one of the most difficult things to diagnose.......could be either hardware or software. Maybe new mother board.......there WILL be a new computer when the Xmas bonus arrives, if I survive that long. (And bear firmly in mind that I was the one who didn't even want a stoopid computer.......... And, it's not a virus. However, when I picked it up today, and managed to boot it at home, I had 48 new e mails, including one from spaw and the same one from kat but forwarded. BOTH were infected with something.....said McAfee. Also had another kak worm from a local friend......jeez. |
