03 Nov 00 - 01:47 PM (#333709) Subject: RE: Tune Add: THE AUSTRAILAISE From: McGrath of Harlow Looks authentic enough, though I can't get my head round bobbing up and down to check the missing words. What's the tune and the provenance, as they say? I'd incline to sing it to Onward Christian Soldiers. |

07 Nov 00 - 09:43 AM (#335925) Subject: RE: Tune Add: THE AUSTRAILAISE From: Stewie McGrath, the provenance of 'Austra-laise' is that it was a poem written by C.J. Dennis, best known for his wonderful collection 'The Sentimental Bloke'. The initial version was entered in The Bulletin's competition for an Australian anthem in 1908 and won a special prize. It was revised in 1914 and widely reprinted. You are quite right - it was sung to the tune of 'Onward Christian Soldiers'. --Stewie. |
