Reminds me that "Nashville Skyline" is probably my favorite Dylan album. There are web-sites with most or all Bob Dylan lyrics. Spaw has found a good one. I lifted these off www.bobdylan.com GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY (Bob Dylan) Well, if you're travelin' in the north country fair, Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline, Remember me to one who lives there. She once was a true love of mine.
Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm,
Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
I'm a-wonderin' if she remembers me at all.
So if you're travelin' in the north country fair, Looking over these lyrics, I'm not sure it's the same as on "Nashville Skyline." It's probably been done in a variety of ways. But I would heartily recommend getting a copy of "Nashville Skyline," if only to hear the cool duet Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash do on this song. Enjoy! Bluejay |

Now all I need to do is figure out the damn chords. Seems to me there was an interesting 3 or 4 bar minor chord progression between the verses? Is my memory at fault again? |

08 Nov 00 - 11:02 PM (#337024) Subject: Chords Add: GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY (Bob Dylan From: ddw Oldfolkie — a great old tune that I did for years, but it's been a long time since I've done it. I don't have a guitar with me, but I was trying to remember the chord pattern I used (which as I recall I got from a Dylan songbook). I won't guarantee this is it, but it might be helpful in figuring out your own thing with it.
(G - C - G) If you're (Em) travelin' in the (C) north country (G) fair (C - G) hope that works for you, david |
08 Nov 00 - 11:17 PM (#337037) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dylan-Girl from the North Country??? From: Amos I use a straight pass from G to Am to a Bm (Am slide up) to D to G on the verse. Sounds good to me. And of course, i sing it JUST like Johnny Cash used to sing it.... :>) Toy around with it and it'll come back to you. A |

09 Nov 00 - 10:05 PM (#337565) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dylan-Girl from the North Country??? From: ddw Mrrzy — you're right, the tunes are very similar and the chords almost identical. Oldfolkie — I lied about the chords at the end; there's no Am in there. It's just C - D9 (w/E string open) - D9 (w/E string, second fret) - G. Makes a nice little run up. david |
