Karen and I are both overwhelmed and grateful for all the support which this wonderful community of friends provides. A quick scan of the other threads assures me that we are discussing and arguing over the news of the world, looking for and researching and debating about folksongs, BS'ing about personal issues, and singing away in a worldwide song circle...........The beauty of all this being that this is a fantastic group of people, capable of heated argument while coming together for each other. It is the essence of Mudcat at its finest that though we may agree or disagree on so many points, the community is banded and bonded together in this strange form of friendship that to most of us is as equally real as any we have known. What a place.............. UPDATE: Karen is doing better today and in no pain. She is getting good rest and they are running boatloads of tests and monitoring her progress on the Heparin very closely. By this time tomorrow, the worst phase will be over and we should see signs of marked improvement......We are seeing some now. By Sunday we should be able to relax a bit and be less worried about something going wrong during the clot dissolvement. The boys are fine and went to see Mom today along with Connie and her boys.....We were quite a crew in the room, but everyone behaved pretty well and Karen and the kids all enjoyed the visit. Tris could see the planes landing at Port Columbus and was in hog heaven! I took everyone (except Karen of course) to supper and Dad pigged out on Phad Thai. I don't know what I would do without Connie and Wayne close by. We are family in the truest sense of the word and we have spent many highs and lows together. I would never have believed we could have such great friends as we have found here at the 'Cat. I told Karen today that I believe she has outdone me, during the aneurism time, in distance and differences. I think that Bugsy in Perth is about as far away as possible and mcmoo and others have weighed in from Belgium, Germany etc. I'm about whipped. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I may come back and play and spread a little "thread litter".......I mean I am still me!!! But now I'm going to kick back a bit and try to get some sleep, assured in knowing that no man or woman has ever been graced with so many wonderful friends as Karen and I have been with all of you. All that wonderful good will, great thoughts and prayers, have meant much to both of us. After spending the morning at the hospital, I picked up the boys, did a little shopping and took them to the hospital. We all ate supper together which made it seem better to them. Tomorrow, we'll be going to the zoo or COSI and then come back to the hospital for supper again. They can start back to school on Monday and I'll make a couple of trips to the hospital during and after. Karen's breathing changed for the better during the course of the day and we hope for the same kind of improvement by this time tomorrow and thanks to all of you and some good treatment, we believe the worst is over. Karen is improving and as kat said, she can now walk the halls which is great. The meds are integrating well, no problem on that. We'll see what the docs have to say tomorrow, but we are over the hump here. Her breathing is still pretty labored, but a huge improvement over Thursday. She is getting rest and doing great. I shared all of the posts up to this afternoon with her and she is overwhelmed and knows as I do the power of good thoughts. The boys go back to school tomorrow and Michael is less than enthused....He was hoping that as long as Mom was in the hospital he would be out of school. Such is life when you're 7........ I'm going to do a couple of chores and then come back and read a few threads. Tonight may be a better night's sleep. Our best back atcha'......... Pat and Karen |

Looks like she'll be home on Wednesday with any luck. She sends her best to all and I know she wants to say that personally so maybe Wednesday night or Thursday............... I'll run Cletus, Paw, and the Reg boys off for a few days. That shouldn't be hard as Paw and Cletus are both angling for positions for whichever guy gets elected. Paw is leanin' toward Bush since he thinks his Momma is "right fine lookin' for an ol' gal"...........Christ I hate to think about it, but at least they'll be outta' here for awhile. This came on over a period of time and it will go away the same way. The Coumadin still has not stabilized to a therapeutic level and they won't release her until it does, so we wait. There's some indication from the tests that perhaps tomorrow will be the day. I hope so. She's getting antsy and the boys are worn out and the Ol' Man has about had it too. She's up and walking the halls and it shouldn't be long now. Neither of us want to push it until things are right.......Nothing worse that coming home and then going back!!! I told her this one was almost to 100, as the other and she just shook her head, even though I couldn't see it, I know she did. She was really pleased and I know it means a lot to her and Pat. Yer doc's'll be talking about regulating it w/something called the "INR." Na; it's got nuttin' ta do wit da TAX GUYS... It's the "International Normalization Ratio" - nominally a way of equalizing lab performance across various labs, so the numbers mean the same thing everywhere. They'll want it between 2.0 & 3.0; Above 3 is still quite ok for most people but 1.9 (or less) is not an ok number to stay at, period. They'll also want her to be careful abt other meds & diet which might affect the fucntion (metabolism) of the coumadin (other name: Warfarin) & it may take many repeat blood tests & a lot of patience, so hang in there! She sounded a lot better this AM though and the healing process is going on nicely so the news is basically good!!! We'll see what tonite's tests look like and hope for another bump. The house is fine, or at least as fine as it normally is and the boys had a good night last night. both had a talk with Mom this morning before school.
