BS: I'm Sorry

16 Nov 00 - 09:08 AM (#341647)
Subject: I'm Sorry
From: GUEST,Iarf.............

Please accept my apology's for my purile , thoughtless and offensive posting. The flames didn't hurt a bit and the personal remarks just water off a ducks back (I play the bhohdhrohn after all). The thing that got to me was caused by reading some of the threads and realising that I was an intruder in a family home. Made me feel awful. The more I read the more I wanted to be part of all those hugs and my stupid attempt at humour has excluded me from this. You really do care about each other and this is something I had no right to violate. I will not stay and lurk (well just until I have posted a tune that I have promised) and I will never post again. Here goes.

My use of the phrase "B****x to you lot" was unforgivable and I'm sorry. My use of the word sycophants was ignorant of your real feelings for each other and I'm Sorry. My insult to Manchester USA showed only my own small minded , self centred opinion and I'm sorry. I am not "really famous" few plonkers are!

To the people who are currently having a hard time I hope the sun shines soon for you and if hugs and love can do the trick then read your own threads , you have a lot more than you will ever need. Greet the next A**Hole that comes along with links to these threads , much better than flames.

Replies not solicited or required

Regrets :-( Iarf..........

It may surprise you to know that you are welcome here anyway. We don't have a lot of folks here who readily admit to playing one of those things. Now that you are more aware of the climate here, you might want to consider staying at the Mudcat as the sensitive and thoughtful person who started this thread.

I suggest, though, that you create a new (shorter) name and start anew. Who would know? I suspect you have quite a bit to share and hope you will do so.

Iarf; I know you're not soliciting comments but I'll make one anyway. It took a lot of intestinal fortitude to apologize. Most of us don't like to admit we're wrong. WHat ever you decide, you should know that you are welcome here. I don't think you'll find anyone here permanently offended. Hell we're musicians and writers etc. Have to have somewhat thick skins. Take goo care and I hope we'll hear more from you. Those who flamed you or leveled personal insults shouldn't have. I don't believe I was one or I would have recognized your name. If I inadvertenly was, my apologies. Kindest reguards, Neil AKA Irish Sergeant

IARF - stick around. You don't even have to change you name, we can explain it to new folk and it becomes a "family" joke - an example, if you would. You are quite obviously knowledgeble - why not stay and contribute?

Getting off on the wrong foot doesn't really matter if a person is willing to admit it happened and put it behind them.

I missed this little squabble. Too many threads to read. This ornate apology suggests it might be more entertaining than most of the little spats we have here from time to time.

Sit down and be sociable.

Subject: RE: BS: I'm Sorry
From: Jeri

IARF, now that we've got that behind us, getcher butt back here! I don't think anyone took it your "flames" seriously - I sure didn't. In any case, we're all entitled to make mistakes. If I said anything truly offensive, it wasn't my intention and I apologize...apologise.

People are accepted into the family here simply because they want to be. You pick on people, people pick on you, but under it all, folks care about each other. We have lots of "stupid attempts at humor" here. No one is excluded because of it - not long-time members and not someone who comes in fresh off the street and simply misjudges the climate. Now that you know what's going on, if you really do like this place, stay for a while!

Now, hold still and be hugged!

It wasn't even a squabble.......IARF posted a thread and some of took it as an opp to jackass around a bit. Some of us had a lot of fun and some people took the whole thing way too seriously from either "side" of it. Whether IARF was truthful then is open to conjecture as any post always is. Apology or no, anyone is always welcome to comment on anything in whatever way they see fit.

So IARF......Glad you're staying/leaving and I hope to hear/not hear more from you in the future......or not.

I figure we could always use a little dose of upset brewing on a thread here and there, otherwise we would never realize how wonderful all us Mudcatters really are on the whole.

Still lurking and laughing.

Oh what the hell! IARF may or may not have been serious then or now. It matters not. What matters is that s/he is trying to communicate and that is our forte!

The "new" spelling of bore-on is a great point in his/her favor from my viewpopint.

So, welcome, IARF. Sit a spell, talk with us, and welcome to the family.

Aw, look, I was hoping you'd put your foot in your mouth again sometime when I am under fire, to take the heat off... now what will I do? Cuz truth is, I get as much grief for positivity as you did for negativity! I was hoping we could sorta switch off when a break is in order!

And hey. How else do we gain gray hairs and credibility as old farts if we don't make mistakes along the way? Your boo-boo can be someone else's friendly helping hand, later on, from what you learned. If you buggger off now, you won't be able to earn any more gray hairs here! And you may find later you need them.

Also I HIGHLY recommend you read all the old threads on embarrassment, faux pas, etc.-- then you will realize that you simply did, here, a fraction of the harm some(most) of us have owned up to doing in the 3D arena!

Finally, saying you just wanted to join the fam-- look out. Talk like that and you may be nominated for a big old group snog, and then you'll be stuck with this lot for good. These Catters don't give up easily!

I hate to be Miss Grumpy-Knickers and not join in the forgiveness fest at this juncture......and it isn't that I'm unwilling to, it's just that I'm at a loss. What did you hope to achieve by that entrance? What was it about the forum that made you react that way? Is your normal modus operandi to be deliberately offensive to people who have done you no harm that they are aware of? I promise I'm not trying to make you squirm here, or be offensive, but I would really like to know if you feel you could tell me.

Everybody plays the fool sometimes
There're no exceptions to the rule

Sometime we get along and sometime we get it wrong and sometime you have to tell your story walking.

IARF - stick around if you feel you want to. I found your original post to be - original. And amusing. I just couldn't imagine that you were serious. I think you'll find that it's hard to be original or witty or profound here (oh there are some notable exceptions who seem to achieve all three on a regular basis). The best thing is to be yourself.

I'm now off for the evening, so I hope all 'Catters everywhere (and all IARF's, too) have a beautiful and restful night.

Dave- what an image: the ponderous gnome. LOL

IARF, the way you presented yourself was so ludicrous, I can only hope it was tongue in cheek! Because if it wasn't, you're not likely to have a good time here.

But I agree with Allan C: IARF, rename yourself and come back; we'll never know. (Unless you start telling us of your fame, again... :)

So, we have a jerk who makes an offensive entrance, no matter if it was tongue in cheek. Then he makes a maudlin apology, maybe tongue in cheek as well. At any rate it was as maudlin as the entrance was offensive. Then a lot of people say, "Oh that's just fine, we like you anyway." And the jerk won't even accept the acceptance of his apology; he claims to be leaving anyway. He sounds like a high maintenance friend to have around. Good riddance.

On the other hand, he sounds like he might be a source of lots of mindless entertainment, as he offends/fools various Mucdat types by being a jerk in a variety of ways. Hope he stays.

John

There's an awful lot of "may be's" and "might be's" and other assumptions in what was a very final judgement of him, John P. I think your sort of message is the kind he's used to reading elsewhere. I think Max got the situation dead right in the other thread.

I don't have enough evidence to personally call him a jerk. We can obviously all be jerks sometimes, but most of us aren't jerks all of the time.

Please put this in perspective IIRF - you haven't done anything so bad, or anything that is new. Others here have started off on the wrong foot, but didn't give up and are still with us.

Nobody can force you to stay or leave, but it would be a shame if you left a place you could enjoy because of a misunderstanding.

Here's my comment on the situation (to the "tune" of '99 Bottles of Beer'):

I Am Really Famous, and bollox to you lot
Your welcome carpet's shaggy, and it's got a spot

You would not bid me join you, you wanted me to rot
Just for my sense of irony, too subtle for your thought

Well I Am Really Famous, and this is what I say:
I will just apologize, and then be on my way

Now you bid me welcome, the carpet's been rolled out
But as it's rather moth-eaten, your welcome I will flout

So I'll be truly leaving, this forum's been in vain
The guest you had, named 'IARF', will not be back again

ROTFLMAO!

Surely no one is of such little consequence that their demise deserves no regrets. How do we know that Iarf would not have become the next virtual Ghani or Mother Theresa or even JC himself.

Then again he may have become Adolph Hitler, Ghengis Khan or Bill Gates...

The point is, we will now never know. Poor little avatar, passed away so young:-(

It is a verb, mostly used in law to mean "to transfer by will or estate to another". But it can be used to mean "died". By those who have an obsession for polysyllabic circumlocutory constructions with Latinate antecedents.
