BS: Hearme Update

I have just received this email from Hearme and thought I shold make others who have been involved in the song circles/ concerts aware in case there are any thoughts. I have yet to look at this software.

Dear HearMe VoiceCREATOR Registrant:

It's time to say good-bye to VoiceCREATOR Basic and hello to VoiceCONTACT.

HearMe will discontinue VoiceCREATOR on December 11, 2000, but not without offering you a great new way to talk to friends and colleagues over the Internet for FREE:

It's easier: You have the ability to see who is online and available for an instant conference before sending them an email "invitation". Recipients simply click on a link to be connected to you. VoiceCONTACT also listens for activity on your personal communications channel whenever you are on-line, allowing friends to drop in anytime and say hello.

It's better: VoiceCONTACT is full duplex (you can talk at the same time like a standard telephone conversation), firewall friendly (allows you to reach behind corporate firewalls to talk to anyone, anytime) and allows multi-party conversations.

It's free: Click http://eudora.voicecontact.com/products/voicecontact/download/ to try it now.

Jon

If it will allow Mac users to join it's worth looking into

So, would that enable a HearMe Sing-a-long?

I have downloaded and installed it but haven't delved into how it works right now. I don't see how to list my name on it, but we'll see how it goes.

Unfortunately, this appears to be a Eudora Email add-on. You can create groups and invite everybody in the group to a 'conference call,' but you can only have eight contacts in any one group. I have my doubts this is going to solve any problems for us.

Nor me Ivan but I felt I should make others aware of developments in the Hearme Saga and offer the oppertunity for discussion but my personal feeling is that the PalTalk solution is the best one available to us at the moment.

But Paltalk does not support MacIntosh! I've been asking and looking but haven't found anything yet. Why does the grass always seem greener on the other side? ...LL

Find us something LL. I'm OK I have a PC... butIknow I would vote in favour of moving if a suitable cross platform product was found and I think that you would find that most, if not all of the PC users here would be more than willing to do the same - I doubt that any of us are really happy in effectively being part of an exclusive club - it's not what folk is about (at least that is the way I see it).

when I bought a computer I made a concious decision to avoid the obvious virtues of a MAC because I was convinced that no one was going to write certain programs for it unless it gained a bigger market share...which it will never do if no one writes programs for it! I bought Beta VCR and learned my lesson!

(but now, I can't even get PalTalk for some reason///so......) Maybe ICQ, which DID make a cross platform version will jump in and do something...but owned by AOL...who knows
