Duckboots makes her debut.

Well I'm so proud! Mudcatter Duckboots (a.k.a. Heather, light of my life) made her debut as a performer today. Oh I know she's been the engineer and "folk-news" reader on my radio show for the last couple of years, but after the initial stark terror, she took to radio like...well..like a duck to water. This was different. With her friend from the Adoption Council and some hand puppets they visited some schools, and through some skits explained what "adoption" means to the kids. I've read the material they use and it's excellent. Jeez, we're a "showbiz duo" family now!

Heather, as you know the subject is near and dear to both of us and I am happy you are out "on tour." Congratulations and keep it up!!! A worthwhile project and you deserve much credit and a hearty WELL DONE!!!

Many thanks and my love to you,

Oh this is very exciting!
Heather, I just spoke to you today and you didn't say a thing about it!
The woman is very modest.
Congratulations Duckboots!.
You should keep a few of those puppets around the house. When you are pissed off at Rick for something, have the puppets discuss the problem with Rick so he gets it.

So, can we borrow you for the UK ,Heather? Finding enough appropriate families/people willing to adopt is a huge issue and we could use all the help we can get.

Duckboots got a freebie to see "Dame Edna Everidge" tonight. Suspect she and a couple of thousand "possums" will be laughing themselves silly.

When I was growing up in Montreal, I used to pass three huge dark and depressing buildings. That was the Quebec Orphanage, run by the Christian Brothers. Truly horrifying. I think things have probably come a long way.

Congratulations Ducks!!!

When Michael and I made the decision to not "have" children, this subject was the major turning point. Why should we produce one, when there are so many already out there that could use the love just as much (if not MORE!).

Can you do a puppet show now for family members who don't understand "why you don't want one of your own??" LOL, the 'Spaw puppet can be an example both of a kind parent and a glaring reason to not have kids!!

Congrats again Ducks! Good work!!

Thank you all for your encouragment. I was a bit ambivalent about doing this but I'm glad that I did - thanks to Rick for giving me a firm but gentle push. The kids were great, they listened intently and asked and answered questions enthusiastically, and they were so cute. It was definitely worth doing, and I wish we'd had something like this when I was in school.

When she takes "The meaning of Adoption to kids" on tour, I've volunteered to be her road manager

Mr. Duckboots

Interesting idea though. When I first met Heather i did a lot of reading on the subject and had no idea that "being adopted" presented as many confusing situations for the young as it does.

If Heather can be a radio show engineer, perhaps the adoption show could turn into a musical?
