Lyr Req: Julianne (from New Christy Minstrels)

Subject: Folk song done by New Christy MInstrals
From: Merripan

Hello. I'm looking for the words to the song "Julianne". My mother used to sing it to me, and just before we moved, she came down and gave me the words. Now that the moving is complete, I cannot find them anywhere, so can't add it to my songbook.

Does anyone have the words to it? I know the first verse:

The shady side of Sunny Mountain That's the place it all began There once lived the fairest maiden And her name was Julianne

But I can't really remember anything else. I know it was recorded in the early 1960's by the New Christy Minstrals, but that's about it.

Thanks for any help.

~M

I have that song in a book of NCM songs published by Cherrybell Music way back when. I'll key it in tonight for you, if no one responds in the meantime.

Barry T, I may be off the mark, but did they do Green Green? It's missing its tune in the DT - I think.

Regards, John

Affirmative, John. That was their big hit, along with the ballad Today.

Will do, John. In the meantime, here are the lyrics for Merripan...

JULIANNE (By Randy Sparks)

The shady side of sunny mountain
That's the place it all began
There once lived the fairest maiden
And her name was Julianne.
Julie's beau was tall and handsome
Just a poor boy with treasures few
Still he promised rings of silver
For to prove his love was true.

Chorus
Have you seen her in the moonlight
Silver rings upon her hands?
Now she wears a crown of sorrow
And her name... and her name
Is Julianne.

Wake me early in the mornin'
Ere the birds begin to sing
I'll get silver from the mountain
And I'll fashion ye a ring.
Off he rode across the mountain
When the fields were damp with dew
But instead he went a ramblin'
And a-courtin' Jenny Lou.

The cabin door was standin' open
On that wild and lonely night
And the hound dog, he lay a dyin'
In the gloomy candlelight.
They found a shattered empty rifle
And the shawl she used to wear
But they never found his Julie
And they never found the hungry bear.

Thank you so much. :-) I appreciate it. I have a pretty large songbook. If there's anything you're looking for that's odd, and could pass for SCA music, I just may have it.

I am searching for the lyrics to "Anything love can buy" by Randy Sparks - did you get the lyrics to JULIANNE?

...that's the place it all began

and her name was Julianne

Julie's beau was tall and handsome
just a poor boy, with treasures few
still, he bought her strings of silver
for to prove his love was true

And you see her in the moonlight
Silver rings upon her hand
Now she wears a crown of sorrow
And her name - and her name
is Julianne...

is this the song you were searching for?

Hi I am trying very hard to find the chords to two songs by Bobby Bare they are "The Bottomless Well" and "Paul"; both were written by Shiel Silverstein, I cannot find anybody who knows these chords or a place to look at them. I don't know why they were both very popular songs on Bobby Bare's double album, Ledgends Lullabies and Lies that came out in the late 50's or earky 60's I think.

Any help with these would be much apreciated.
Many thanks,
Don Elison
