Welcome, Luke! Yes, this is a pretty fine place, a lot like a family, where there are tiffs and spats and serious disagreements but pervading all there's a real strong caring that shines through. And we're all here for the music!

WHADYA MEAN TIFFS AND SERIOUS DISAGREEMENTS??!! ANIMATERRA, THEM'S FIGHTIN' WORDS!

Or maybe not *BG*

Welcome to the madhouse, Luke. Tell us a little about yourself and how you justify your existance.

Trivia question: What book does that last sentence come from?

Well,

There is no real justification for such an old pile such as myself. Only thing I can say is I made it this far, and lord knows how.

I've managed to play music all my life professionally, and for profit. (pardon the attempt at humor) Ilive in Ohio and play stringed instruments.(guitar banjo fiddle and if you need one bad enough.)

Grew up singing and that was all she write. My dad's only words of advice were, "Stand up straight, keep you're hair comed and don't sing flat and you'll be ok.

Thats pretty much what I been doin since then.

How about you all?

Whats up witch?

Ah, Luke my man, so you play guitar, banjo, and fiddle, eh? If it's clawhammer, so much the better. If it isn't, that's alright, too. But something tells me we might have a thing or three in common. I play the three same instruments, too. Welcome,

Welcome Luke -- it is a pretty amazing place, isn't it? I'm so grateful for the DT database and for the incredible, voluminous knowledge lodged in the minds of mudcatters, and of course for the kindness of strangers (who become less and less like strangers every day). Incidentally, I had lots of fun playing my guitar with a banjo player and fiddler when I lived in Ohio, so I guess that means you are equal to (or greater than) the sum of our parts... Margaret

Welcome to the zoo, Luke. I'm a little partial to that name, it's my son's name also. I's also a fiddler and we're always glad to welcome another one. Most of these nutsos play guitar.

Oh, and Do watch out for Spaw--he lives in Ohio too!

Welcome Luke — where are you in Ohio? I escaped from Cleveland about 30 years ago, but still travel thru regularly on my way to North Carolina — usually down I-75, but occasionally over to I-77 and down that way. Living in Canada now. Well, sorta. Windsor, Ont., actually. Which is a little principality all to itself — not really Canada and not really U.S.

And don't let Troll's warning scare you — 'Spaw IS he man behind the curtain. He's fairly harmless, but keep an eye on Cletus....

cheers,

david

Subject: RE: BS: Thanks for the howdy
From: Luke

Folks,

Thanks for the warm howdy, I have ben in folk-trad music for years and I also write songs. I was a member of the folk trio the Young-uns when I was 12 years old and have played with many groups since then. I am 51 now and have been working in storytelling theater for the last 15 years or so. I work as songwriter in res. as well as acting at acting. It has given me the way to be a writer performer but not deal with the music biz types that can make a feller want to clean toilets cuz it's moe sanitary.

I live in the northwest part of Ohio (Logan co.). In a little town called Rushsylvania.

I humbly except your welcome and look forward to a what appears to be a great group of yammer ons and brainiacs.

I'll see ya round,

Luke (Bob Lucas)

I can dream can't I??

LTS don't ask why, you'll regret it.

pj - that would be Monty Python's Holy Grail! Know it well, know it well, have my own copy, have the script bookmarked on the Web. (what makes you think she's a witch?)

Greetings Luke, my name is Kim, I also play the fiddle. Sometimes I refer to myself as the Princess Svetlana of Antioch (the Antioch thing being not only another Monty Python ref, but actually is the name of the 'burb where I live!) just for kicks and giggles. :)

Hi, Anna! I'm in Seattle. Well, just south of Seattle, actually, near the airport. I work for a large company that makes winged metal tubes that fly through the air carrying people and cargo.

I wonder if programmers are under- or over-represented in the ranks of musicians? I would guess over. Sounds like a topic of a new thread.

Mrrzy, Isaac Asimov wrote a series of stories about a men's club called the Black Widowers. They would sit at dinner and solve mysteries over brandy and cigars. Well, actually the butler would solve the mysteries for them.

Anyway, their mysteries came in the form of invited guests and the sentence I used in my first post ("Tell us a little about yourself and how you justify your existance.") is how they would open the discussion with the guest.
