01 Dec 00 - 07:08 AM (#349487) Subject: Wise Words for Dec. 1st From: Little Neophyte If you are waiting for something to happen before you begin what you want to do, it will never happen. If you are waiting to get something before you do what you say you want to do, you will never get started. If you are waiting for the right time, the right person, the right circumstances, you could be waiting forever. How about this, what can you do right now? Can you write a letter? Make a call? Finish a plan? Structure a goal? Can you pick a name? Paint a wall? Ask a question? Sweep a floor? Can you structure a schedule? Can you project a date? Can you fulfill a promise? Can you read a book? Can you stop doing all the things you do that keep you from doing the one thing you want to do? Can you pray? Can you sing? Can you dance right where you are? Whatever you can do, you better do it now. Now is all you have to work with. Acts of Faith, Iyanla Vanzant |

01 Dec 00 - 08:12 AM (#349510) Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for Dec. 1st From: bflat Great thoughts, Little Neo. I recently made a number of major life changes and each time I reached that first step in the process beyond conceptual thought, I paused and said to myself, "do it, don't wait." Afterall, the farthest thing from now is the second that just past. Read something like that once. It was a turning point. bflat |

I'm pretty sure John Lennon was quoting it himself too - but I don't know who from. Maybe it's a trad quote, a proverb. Well it is now anyway.
The thing is, any time I decide to do something that's been looming over me, I find that there are all kinds of other things which need to be done alongside it and in the course of doing it. So they get done as well. Or instead of it maybe, if I run out of time/energy/resources. But that thing I decided I was going to do something about getting done is important to the whole process, even if ,in the end, it never gets done .
It's like "there's a hole in my bucket" - but the other way round, because you can find other ways of fixing the things that get in the way, and they wouldn't get fixed if you hadn't wanted to mend the hole in th first place. |
