BS: John Prine for President

From: Roger in Baltimore

A friend (who says he never forwards jokes) forwarded this to me. I thought some Mudcatters might find it amusing. It's a fair test of your John Prine knowledge as well.

TOP REASONS JOHN PRINE SHOULD BE PRESIDENT:

by Old Hippie & PMS*red

15. Every day would be Christmas
14. Peaches in every pot

13. Everything would be cool

12. Dirty Hawaiian would be a required language

11. Junk mail would be illegal

10. "Smiles" would be legal

9. Great compromises

8. White house tables would have train tracks nailed to them

7. Dear Abby would be top advisor

6. He's level on the level

5. He'd forgive Willie's IRS bill

4. All veterans would be well taken care of

3. He's environmentally friendly

2. Touring on Air Force 1

...and the number one reason I'd vote for John Prine: 1. Speeches would start with a great story and end with a song.

Me, too.

I used to see "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Willie Nelson" bumper stickers at home. Always wanted one--if anyone knows where to get them, let me know. (I'd go for "I Voted for John Prine", too).

John Prine is also the only (candidate) to tackle organ donation head on:

Give my feet to the footloose, the careless fancy free,
Give my knees to the needy, don't pull that stuff on me

And to Gush and Bore:

Send your mouth way down south,
And kiss your asses goodbye!

Being a Civil War reenactor I have posted on the back of my pickup a sticker telling the world "Don't blame me, I voted for Jeff Davis". It seems doubly appropriate in this particular election year. I do like the idea of John Prine for President. After this election experience and learning how many votes don't count I wonder if any one will waste much time on the next election?

John Prine may be the only person in the country with enough Common Sense to solve this mess.

Banjer, I'm not trying to start trouble, but when I see that bumper sticker I think "this guy wants to bring back slavery". Now I'm sure you're a real nice guy without a racist bone in your body, but that is the message you're sending out.

LDave, I truly respect your thoughts and opinions, and appreciate that you took time to tell me about them. I do not feel that I am racist, but maybe best you shouldn't read the other stickers on the back of my truck window. Like the one that shows the Confederate flag and asks the reader to fly our heritage. There are also ones that tell the world I am a Civil War reenactor, that I am Politically Incorrect and Proud of It!, one that shows the confederate flag on one end and the POW/MIA flag on the other with the message in the middle saying that 'This Flag Wouldn't Have Left You Behind' and one other that proclaims simply 'HERITAGE not HATE!' I know in a Northern state that would simply be unacceptable but here in the South very few people have a problem with it. I do not condone slavery in any form, it is the idea of States having as much say in governing themselves as much as possible that I support. Many times folks will ask me about my display and that gives me an opportunity to expound on my views. Thanks for asking and commenting, now back to opur regularly scheduled thread.

I dunno about North and South, but if I was black I think I'd hesitate before taking a lift in a car with those stickers...I don't think I'd think that "our" could be meant to include me. (Any more than I think the Union Jack includes me.)

Is it true prine wrote paradise for the everly brothers?

The Everlys version of Paradise was certainly the first one I heard, on their "Pass The Chicken & Listen" album in 1972. It also has Guy Clark's "A Nickel For The Fiddler". Incidentally at the concert for a landmine free world in London recently (JP, Nanci Griffith, Emmylou, Steve Earle and Elvis Costello) JP stole the show, and their last encore was a communal version of Paradise.

The North fought the Civil War over slavery.

The South fought the Civil War over the issue of whether ultimate soverignity (sp?) rested in the Federal government or in the states.

It's been 140 years, and neither side has yet figured out the other's point.

Peter.

On second thought... I'd hate to see a guy that cool, get saddled with a lousy-ass job like that!

So, no... I take my vote back... John Prine is too cool to be the american president...

Thanks for giving me the chance to say this! My band THICK YELLOW TOENAILS does a great parody of this buffoon. We have a four minute (plus) bit where we do nothing but a medly of John Prine "refrains." Clearly, this is what this clown does best! We think the true talent of John Prine is his ability to drill into the heads of his listeners a notion that he has something to say. Much like a woodpecker pokes holes into a dead tree, hoping to find bugs. Ha!

It's a beautiful idea, (sigh), but those of us who are registered had best vote for somebody who can beat Bush.
