Besides the obvious hits like Elvis, "Blue Christmas" and Bowie and Bing's, "Little Drummer Boy"? I'd suggest Jethro Tulls, "A Christmas Song", and "Another Christmas Song"... Then Danny Carnahan's, "Dram To Warm The Piper"

03 Dec 00 - 11:46 PM (#350929) Subject: RE: Have Yourself a Napster Little Christmas From: Thyme2dream If you have never heard the Trans Siberian Orchestra, you should at least give them a listen...My favorite song from their Christmas CD is 'Christmas Eve Sarajevo 24-12' (sometimes Carol of the Bells on napster files)...it mixes Carol of the Bells with God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen--instrumental, a full orchestra with this amazing electric guitar soaring through the mix...very intense and passionate and and and...(okay, I like it a bit can you tell?) They also do one called 'The Mad Russians Christams' which starts out with silent night, and then blends several themes from the Nutcracker Suite. I am certainly not trying to pass this off as folk, but it is very interesting IMHO. If you like Jethro Tull, what about 'Ring Solstice Bells' from Songs from the Wood? I'm also quite fond of that old Smother's Brother's parody of the Twelve Days of Christmas, but can't remember the title..anybody else remember that one? When I was a little girl, my dad had Tennesee Ernie Ford's Christmas album, and his version of 'Do You Hear What I Hear' was beautiful. |

There's a piano album called December... but I can't remember the nake of the dude who's playing it... used to have it in the dance studio... really great mellow stuff... We're using the music from "A Muppet Christmas Carol" for our local church's production of "A Christmas Carol," and it really holds up outside of the context of the movie.
