BS: Big RiB goes to the Sunshine State

Marge and I are headed to FLA in the middle of December (13th-19th). We're visiting family in Panama City. Any suggestions for attractions to visit? We fly into Tampa and the head north. We hope to visit in Tallahassee as well.

RiB - Our band "Paddy Go Easy" is doing a show at the Warehouse, 706 W. Gaines, in Tallahassee on Sat the 16th. If it suits your schedule, come on over. It's about an hour & a half east from Panama City, but good road (I-10). There are several 'catters hereabout and we might could gin up a session or something after the show. PM me for more details.

...Roger...try to see the manatess...one place is Manatee State Park on the way North from Tampa. I have more ideas which I'll share when I get a hold of the FOFF newsletter. "Wild Azalea", the band I am in now, plays a tea time benefit the 15th,16th, and 17th at 4pm...So I'll be around and I will host a supper if you like....I plan on going to paddymac's gig on the 16th. We could use the pub room at the Warehouse for a jam, maybe... Abby

I will be checking with Marge to see if I can talk her into Saturday. Any other suggestions from others?

I talked with Marge and I plan to go to Paddymac's gig on Saturday, 12/16. The jam sounds interesting. Unfortunately, Marge will likely stay behind in Panama City. We're visiting her (our?) grandchildren and she wants to spend the time with them. Unless of course she's already had it "up to here" with 'em and needs to escape. Being a step-Grandparent is a bit confusing yet to me, so it's easier for me to come on Saturday. Hope to see some 'Catters there.

You're too late to fix the election RiB.

...it will be great to meet you Roger. I'll bring a six and twelve string with me for you to borrow for jamming...

Roger if you are out there...there is an exhibit of Zelda Fitgerald's works at a gallery downtown in Panama City. If you travel further west, Topsail Beach near Destin is a breathtaking wild beach...hg

To the Tallahassee Mudcatters, I offer my sincere apologies. Due to multiple problems (including some torrential Florida downpours), I did not get to the Warehouse until after 10 PM. The only residents of the backroom were a circle of bluegrass jammers. I suppose everyone from the Mudcat left well before then. I listened for about an hour and travelled back to Panama City.

There were three particularly good players, one on guitar, one on mandolin, and one on banjo. I was surprised there were no fiddle players. I also never figured out the dynamics. Different people started different tunes, but they didn't go around the circle and there seemed no method to how the decision was made.

Again, I'm sorry for not making the scene on time.

Roger...we were in the other room listening to Paddy Go Easy which is paddymac's band...and we thought you never came...Paddy Go Easy played until after 11. I had to leave to pick up my son from a party. I can't believe we missed you! That jam is the typical Tallahassee jam, confused and hard to figure out. Banjo player is Tom Henderson, the music teacher at my son's school. The guitar player is Gordon Scott, (see Elite Sesson thread), and the mandolin player is Dave Laparoti. I am heartbroken. I wanted to meet you!!!!

...Roger, I was in the bluegrass jam for one song. I sang Take Me Back to the Sweet Sunny South with Doug Gauss. Were you there then?

RiB - Sorry we didn't get connected. The bluegrass jam was in what we call "the wee room". We rehearse in there on most Thursdays. The "big room", where shows, etc, happen, is on the other side of the pool hall. The weather was atrocious, with tornado warnings and all, and pretty much killed our crowd. Heard on the news this morning that several people were killed up in Alamaba by tornadoes. You get an A+ for effort, and I guess we should get an F for not doing a better job briefing you on the layout of the place. We'll look forward to catching up with you another time.

Damn! I was so close! Geez, just a step across the pool hall. I thought I was in the right place. I wanted to meet you all, too. Marge says we may come to FLA again. If we do, I promise to make some firmer plans.
