WHITE DOVE
(Carter Stanley)
In the deep rolling hills of old Virginia,
Refrain:
White dove will mourn in sorrow,
We were all so happy there together
As the years roll by I often wonder
Other sources have these variant lines:
In the beautiful hills of old Virginia There's a place I love so well...
I'll live my life in sorrow...
Darkness finds me where I kneel to pray. |

His version would have to be something to be better than the Stanleys with Pee Wee Lambert which I reckon is exquisite. I think Carter's languid, dolorous lead vocals on songs like this are among the lasting treasures of bluegrass. --Stewie. |

I do have that album - it was missfiled with Benny Martin LPs. It's quite a while since I've delved into my vinyl bluegrass collection. I'll give it a listen. How do you like the matching hat and suit he's wearing on the cover? --Stewie. |
