10 Dec 00 - 02:17 AM (#354322) Subject: RE: boy with green hair From: katlaughing Dean Stockwell, of Quantum Leap fame, played the boy, according to the info I found. There are several places which have the movie for sale. One of them had a nice synopsis and a place for leaving memories and messages, so you might try there, too, at: www.yesterdayland.com Good luck, kat |

10 Dec 00 - 09:30 AM (#354402) Subject: RE: boy with green hair From: Giac Kat's link shows that another child actor in that film was Dwayne Hickman. Did he grow up to be Dobie Gillis? I was about 10 when I saw the movie and it had a powerful impact on me, especially the scenes with Dean Stockwell and the poster orphans. I used to dream about it.

11 Dec 00 - 11:30 AM (#354960) Subject: Lyr Add: RE: boy with green hair From: Jacob B Chip chip my little horse Chip chip again, sir How many miles to London Town? Four score and ten, sir. Chip chip my little horse. Chip chip again sir. May I get there by candle light? You may, and back again, sir. Sung as a call and response song. I recall reading in Chappell that the distance which one could ride by the light of a penny candle was a way of referring to distances in England at one time. And I recall "The Boy With Green Hair" ending with the boy and his grandfather singing this song. The movie, Nature Boy, and this song all made strong impressions on me. "Tail of me Coat" I don't remember at all. Jacob |
11 Dec 00 - 03:05 PM (#355125) Subject: RE: boy with green hair From: GUEST,MTed "The Boy with the Green Hair" is shown periodically on AMC, funny that Troll. our resident conservative, should remember it--it was a charming, though less than subtle, anti-war, anti-prejudice allegory and a thinly veiled attack on McCarthyism and the conservative political wing--it was banned outright in many places, and got Joseph Losey blacklisted and denounced as a Communist-- |

"Chip Chip Again, Sir ..." This was far more memorable to me than the movie. Why? I don't know. It touches me that others have been similarly moved. ---Mark |

Dean Stockwell, Dwayne Hickman, Pat O'Brien and Robert Ryan, not a bad cast. |
26 Apr 05 - 03:26 PM (#1471556) Subject: RE: boy with green hair From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy I first saw this film on after school TV, we only had black and white then, but in my memory his hair turned green, though everything else was in shades of gray. It was in fact shot in color, badly fading on the prints that have been used for videotape, but still worth watching. |
