Subject: try to find another way to make it true
From: GUEST,laurent945@caramail.com

Hello !

I'm looking for the author's name and title of a lyric that contains these words :

"try to find another way to make it true" "before they do it to you" "everybody's talking ... (?) blabla" "what you do and what you say" "what you want and what you make" "what you see and what you give"

I couldn't write down more of it. Does some one know this song ? I really would like to buy it.

Thank you for your help !

Laurent

Here's my transcription from YouTube. The video seems to be taken from a live TV performance. (I also listened to some other versions)

THIS WORLD TODAY IS A MESS
Written by Donna Hightower & Danny Daniel
As sung by Donna Hightower

1. What you do and what you say
Has a lot to do in how you live today.
What you want, what you make,
Ev'rybody knows it's only what you take.

2. What you see and what you hear,
When it comes around again, it's not too clear.
You say yes; they say no.
Ev'rybody's talkin' ev'rywhere you go.

3. You try to give another man a helpin' hand,
He will take your kindness for a weaker stand.
Never do to others what they do to you.
Try to find another way to make it through.*

4. What I say is what I know.
Try to get a favor going from door to door.
You stop and pray; it's out of style.
To get a step ahead it takes a hundred miles.

REPEAT VERSES 4, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 3, & scat.

*On repeating this verse, substitute this last line: "You better do it to them before they do it to you."

Some lines are embellished or paraphrased during the repeats, for example, "...When it comes around again, it's not gonna be the same thing / Because you're gonna say yes and they're gonna say no / Ev'rybody's gonna be goin' blah-blah-blah..."

The singer's anger and cynicism seems to grow to a crescendo during these embellishments until speech is impossible; hence the "scat" verse, during which she calms down. Well, that's my interpretation anyway.
