Theme from Australian TV series 'Rush'

From: Lidi

I know this hasn´t much to do with music, but perhaps someone can help me anyway.... This series is about a boy and a girl in the late 17-18th century in Ireland, both of them, for some reason, were sent in exile to Australia. Their names in the series are Mary and Jonathan. Jonathan is played by a man named John English, who is supposed to be a quite famous Australian musician, he also wrote the title song to the series, which is very beautiful.

My question is, what´s the name of this particular series?

I have asked this once before, but my thread then was kinda blury, and the reply I got wasn´t what I was looking for, but thanx anyway......

Cheers

Lidi

Hi

I've only been in Oz for a while, unfortunately for your request John English is in most Australian dramas. Can you be a bit more specific about the plot?

Alison......

If you mean if I could be any more specific concerning the contense, I would say may post above pretty much covers the main things.....However, I can give you a vage description of John English....:)

In this series he has dark, long hair.....he has a very paculiar face, dark rings around his eyes. it´s a man you´ll notice if you see him.......:)

Hi Lidi

Does this mean that the title of the series wasn't "Rush" (as I posted in the last thread)? The other male actor was John Waters.

The song I was thinking of is called Six Ribbons and was sung by Jon English.

Hey Helen...

The title doesn´t sound familiar, but the song does....perhaps what you say is what I´m looking for. Does "Rush" have the contense mentioned above? Cheers

Hi again

Yes, the series I am thinking about was about convicts transported to Australia, but it was about 20 years ago that I saw the series, so my memory is not good on the names of the characters. I am fairly certain that it was in black & white, and not colour.

I might be wrong about the name of the series - I'm really hoping that another Aussie will come to the rescue here.

G'day,
This really tests my memory - and it has failed again. I remember watching Rush - it was a good series. It had John Waters in it but I can't remember if Jon English was in it or not. It probably would have had some convict storylines but I think the main theme was the gold rush. If it was B&W it would have been 25+ years ago.

Cheers,
Alan

Helen and Alan......

This series was not a B&W series, it was filmed around -81. This man, John(Jon) English was a member of an Australian pop/rock band and he toured with the band in Sweden(where I live) around -84....

The series contained around 12-15 episodes. Unfortunately, I only know the Swedish title, but I really would like to know the English title.

Now, if I translate it directly from Swedish to English it would be: "Against the winds", but I know that that´s not the English title.

Cheers

Hey - I just remembered in a memory flash as I clicked on my bookmarks to get to Mudcat (isn't the human brain amazing??)

It was called *Against the Wind*.

Oh no - you won't believe me now because Lidi already told us the Swedish title translation ;-> But truly - it popped into my mind completely out of nowhere. Maybe it was a telepathic message from Sweden to Australia and we don't need the internet or Mudcat at all.

I wonder whether Max is a wiz at telepathic technological programming as well???

Well, if you don't believe Helen I can confirm that Jon English was in a series called "*Against the Wind". I don't watch much TV & didn't see it, but now that my memory has been jogged.....

Cheers,
Alan
