Bill Sables-Don't make me laugh

27 Dec 00 - 07:12 PM (#364234)
Subject: Bill Sables-Don't make me laugh
From: Mrs.Duck

Despite the title of this thread it is a serious one. Last night Bill and Lorna had a nasty bump when their car hit a patch of ice and then a tree. Both of them have bumps bruises and minor cuts but Bill is also nursing two broken ribs. Being the trooper that he is he still turned up at Mouldy's party and played his banjo but did ask that we avoided making him laugh. Bill actually went throughthe windscreen but you will all be pleased to know that there is no damage to those youthful good looks!! The car did not fare so well and will be written off.
Hope you feel better soon, Bill. Now tell us again what you got for Christmas!!

Sorry to hear of your experience Bill and Lorna.

What a bummer!!! Get well soon to both of you! And next time Bill, you might think of carrying that squeezebox on the front bumper as a kind of crash protection device.

Not making Bill laugh - that must have been difficult. Just the sight of you all sitting around trying to keep straight faces would be enough to set him off.

Spaw- how cruel! I hope Bill didn't laugh- but I did!

Get well soon, Bill and Lorna. Congratulations on getting off that easily yourselves- I'm sorry about your car.

It happened to me once- we wrapt around a telephone pole in a muddy field. Luckily the mud slowed us down enough that there wasn't much force left.

Great kat....Now shut the cluck up!

Micca, I think Bill would be hard pressed (come to think of it he already got hard pressed, so to speak) not to get a laugh at those Christmas pictures of ours. If you include Banj and Bill in Alabama you have to admit its a dubious looking group. I can't help but notice the other family members in the pictures look pretty good so I'm wondering what the hell is wrong with the four of us?

Bill, be sure NOT to look at the thread called "Mudcat Family Holiday Photo Album." Micca and Banj look like a matching pair of scouring pads, I look like I just farted, and Bill Foster has just mugged Smokey the Bear for his hat!

Now, as I still sometimes have to say to Maggie (my daughter), whatever you do, don't smile---hey, I thought I said don't smile!! STOP THAT SMILING RIGHT NOW!!! (Just don't laugh... oops, sorry!)

Thanks folks, The cuts in my head are healing ok now that I got the glass out but the pains are getting worse in my chest. It is a bugger when you can't turn over in bed and it is worse trying to get up. But I am sure a few gallons of Yorkshire tea and a couple of dozen fags will make it all better. I will get back to you all soon but at the moment my chest is painful as hell.

Big Phil has obviously been talking to my great friend Ian Ainsley who is probably the best mechanic in Yorkshire. Ian towed the car back to his workshop for the insurance assessors and informed me that we had felled two trees in the process of stoping. All I remember is seeing these bloody trees coming toward me and then we stoped and my door wouldn't open. They said that I was lucky, the passenger should not have got out alive as that side was very crushed, but I did, but I would have called it lucky if the car was parked outside now and I didn't have this bloody pain in my chest. All I can say is if you are going out for New Year take great care on the icy roads I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
Cheers Bill

Yikes!

We tell our patients to hug a pillow really hard, using it as a splint when they feel a laugh, cough, or sneeze coming on. I'm sure split-in-half-Patterson can give you great advice on the practical management of rib fractures, too.

In any case, no smiling, no laughing, no hoildays until you're well, which we hope is quite soon.

All best,

I think bill had better avoid reading this thread or he'll do himself an injury. In fact it might be better to keep well away from the Mudcat for the time being. Let Lorna risk it.

And everyone MIND THE ICY ROADS, as he said. I've just skidded my car and demolished two panels of a neighbour's fence, plus a concrete fence post - ended up neatly and narrowly missing his two cars parked on the other side. And that was with me going at about two miles an hour. (No damage to me or anyone else though, which is the main thing. And no musical instruments damaged either.)

So stay home if you can!!

You really should not try to refine your circus act in the interior of your car, Mr. Sables.

Glad to hear you and Lorna are doing ok after this encounter with gravity and inertia. Big fat hairy bummer!

Take good care of yourselves. If I make it to the U.K. this summer, I expect to see you both fit and feisty and ready to take me around to your favorite pubs and musical haunts!

I would like to warn Bill that comfrey "can" be toxic.....some people are allergic to it, and it is on the list of "cautioned" herbs........esp. for internal use. Boneset (which is not comfrey) could also help.

The herb contains alkaloids (I'm reading from a book) which can cause liver damage. It is only present in minute amounts, or sometimes not at all, in the aerial parts from which the tea is made. Most is in the root. I'd suggest, given the taste and with the advised caution, you don't make it your main drink of the day! (I've made comfrey liquid manure, and I have never smelt anything so disgusting!) The book recommends applying comfrey ointment, cream or infused oil onto fractures. Not onto broken skin, though. I hope the tea has helped, because it does have anti-inflammatory properties.

If anyone is going to the Jug tomorrow would you call at the local Chinese Takeaway and get me a portion of spare ribs. Mrs Cobble is calling to pick me up as I can't drive yet and she is also collecting Sam Pirt. Last Wednesday, the day after the accident, my ribs felt much better than they do now, they have got more painful as the week has progressed. Most of the bloody scabs have gone from my head now and new skin is growing (It's a pity the bloddy hair isn't)I have no discolouration on my chest but my shirts are not fitting like they used to so I must have some sort of swelling, Has anyone any old bras I could borrow? I am growing like Widdow Twankey. Thanks for all your good wishes,I know it still hurts like hell but it is better than being in a wheelchair or a coffin.
