Historic Resolutions

For a News Year Gig I am looking for historic statements that could be considered a resolution. For instant who said "I shall return" or Bush Sr. said "Read my Lips, no new taxes". That resolution when by way of my weight reduction resolution. What historic resolution can you think of?

Well of course ol' Churchill said "......and we shall NEVER surrender!" Didn't either.

Believe Al Haig said "I'm in charge here"!

"...It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion; that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom; and that the government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

--Abraham Lincoln, Address at Gettysburg, 19 November 1863

(Sorry, Sorcha, more war...)

If you want happiness for an hour take a nap.
If you want happiness for a day -- go fishing.

If you want happiness for a year -- inherit a fortune.

If you want happiness for a lifetime -- help someone else.
