31 Dec 00 - 09:13 AM (#366182) Subject: Womble shock From: GUEST,Rana Having just returned from England and having my fill of UK christmas TV I was somewhat surprised to see Roy Wood (ex-Move and Wizzard) team up with the Wombles (big furry creatures who live of Wimbledon common) for a Xmas release. What shocked me was that Pter Knight (ex- Steeleye Span fiddler) was a Womble. Does any one know of the identity of any of the others who may have been Wombled? Cheers Rana

"In the hall of the mountain womble"............ they've just re-run the wombles over here in Oz... took me back about 25 years... hahaha speaking of Roy Wood.. that's another difference between Oz and the UK.... back at home you wouldn't have gone a day at this time of year without hearing "I wish it could be Christmas every day"!!!!! slainte alison |
01 Jan 01 - 05:19 PM (#366836) Subject: RE: Womble shock From: Whitcher Matt R do you mean Rick Kemp I saw him, Maddy Prior, Pete Knight and Maddy Prior and Rick Kemp's daughter at the Stables Wavendon (near Milton Keynes UK)in May 2000. It was a brilliant evening, relaxed and more like the early Maddy Prior I saw in the 70's. Rick played some exceptionally haunting riffs, a treat as I'd not seen him since he left Span about 15 years ago. The Stables is a great venue if you're in the area, it's in the grounds of Cleo Laine and Jonny Dankworth's property, and has just undergone major rebuilding to house more and allow for dances. They cover Jazz (obviously) folk rock pop blues and classical, and reasonably priced tickets too. ( I am not linked to them in any way but good work deserves good praise.) Harry |
01 Jan 01 - 07:19 PM (#366884) Subject: RE: Womble shock From: Liz the Squeak I saw that, it was a bit scary! the wombles were mostly Mike Batt's band and anyone else who was hanging around the studio at the time.... Mike was Orinocho. LTS |
02 Jan 01 - 03:43 PM (#367225) Subject: RE: Womble shock From: BigDaddy To the best of my knowledge, Peter Knight is still a member of Steeleye Span. He is certainly on their most recent recordings (Time, Horkstow Grange & Bedlam Born). That "ex" Steeleye comment briefly worried me. |
