03 Jan 01 - 05:08 AM (#367638) Subject: Nollaig na mBan From: GUEST,JTT Saturday is January 6, the old date of Christmas. An old tradition in Ireland is Nollaig na mBan, when women have a party with tea and cakes and port and madeira and wines of all sorts, everyone bringing a small amount of food. It's the old way of finishing up the Christmas, when the women who had done the work had their own party. It generally starts about five or six in the evening, and includes lots of singing and laughing. Any Celtic-inclined tabby catters might like to take the opportunity to have their women's party. |
