03 Jan 01 - 12:07 PM (#367827) Subject: Folk Music Course From: SINSULL Just received an email from Barnes and Noble. They are offering free on-line courses in everything from yoga to Jazz. This may be the perfect way to introduce the internet generation to folk and blues. The address is: http://www.barnesandnobleuniversity.com/Classroom/Course/1,1438,25015_25507__,00.html Sorry - I still haven't mastered the blue clicky. So, is there anyone interested in putting together a curriculum and presenting it to B&N? Maybe one person could handle Sea Shanties, another English Ballads, etc. Each would research his or her specialty. A section could be on instruments, maybe. We have the talent here to do this. And we need a "spokesperson" with a recognizable name to present it on line. I am willing to coordinate. Maybe it could include the Travelling Mudcat Show. Feedback? |

03 Jan 01 - 07:37 PM (#368096) Subject: RE: BS: Folk Music Course From: Allan C. Gosh, if we were to follow the existing methods of putting together a curriculum, one entire semester could be comprised of nothing more than the examination of songs dealing with high crimes. Another whole semester could be spent on the history (and the attitudes toward them) of wars as told through folksongs. I think this would be a great thing to get started; but I will have to remain as a sideline cheerleader. |
