04 Jan 01 - 04:21 PM (#368567) Subject: Brendan Smith comes home From: Wesley S First of all let me tell you that as a proud new dad I won't make y'all suffer through threads like "Brendan masters algebra at age 3" "Brendan takes his first steps" "Brendan accepted to Harvard at age 10" or "Brendan's dumps don't stink" or whatever. But considering the trials and tribulations of Brendan and Patrick I thought a lot of you would enjoy hearing that Bretta and I took Brendan home from the hospital yesterday. He's doing fine { 4 pounds 7 ozs. }. And so are the cats. So far Gypsy and Jasmine haven't shown any objection to the new little interloper. This also gives me another chance to thank all of you for your support, prayers, candles, songs, flute solos, ect. during the most trying time of Bretta's and my life. It won't be forgotten. We know there is no way to repay you for the kindneses shown but be assured that we will "pay it forward" to the next folks whenever we get the chance. From the "Would You Believe?? Department" - Bretta and I were both shocked at two different times in the neo-natal ICU department of the hospital when two different sets of parents came in to visit their children with the obvious scent of reefer on them. I mean - What kind of parents think - " Hey - Lets get high and go visit our baby" ?? It made us very sad and concerned about the future of these babies. We were also amazed when someone showed up at Patrick's memorial service smelling of reefer also. And trust me - I'm not mistaken about what pot smells like. Anyway - thanks again - I won't post about Brendan again until he's accepted at Julliard. That should be in about 12 years or so. |

04 Jan 01 - 04:36 PM (#368578) Subject: RE: Brendan Smith comes home From: Hollowfox If Gypsy and Jasmine are anything like my four-leggeds, they understand that Brendan is your kitten, and they'll be as patient with him as they would be with a furred one. (My gave more than a few heavy sighs during the toddler years, but they were glad that we taught our young'uns good "cat manners" along the way.) |

04 Jan 01 - 04:42 PM (#368581) Subject: RE: Brendan Smith comes home From: Wesley S I almost forgot that Bretta was overwhelmed when I told her about the candle vigil that Mudcatters started. She's told many of her friends about it. The idea that candles all over the world were being lit for our boys was a comforting and heartwarming thought. Thanks again. |

I can understand if you don't want to post to the general forum (though I think you'd be surprised how many people would welcome such posts) but you can PM people, yes? And pictures! and progress on the stained glass window at the chapel... |

But it's good to hear that Brendan's OK. Tell us a bout the Christening maybe? Here's a picture of his namesake, and lots of other stuff Great name! |

I too, expect REGULAR updates too---first real smile, first spit up, first solid food.......come on, Wes, ya gotta do this thing for all of us "Aunts and Uncles", ok? |

04 Jan 01 - 07:57 PM (#368740) Subject: RE: Brendan Smith comes home From: catspaw49 Somehow I don't believe you Wes buddy. I can see a list of Brendan threads in our future..............and they better be there! You tell Sinsull anything you don't tell me and I'll be hacked! Its OK to be a proud Pop around here. Lord knows I talk enough about Michael and Tristan. The lad will give you a lifetime of joy coupled with a desire to wring his neck at times. Think back to your parents and you know it is the way of things! We are all so happy for all of you and no one but a total jerk will ever tire of hearing stories about kids......yours, mine, other 'Catters........Its the best thing we talk about here. Tell Bretta her "extended family" wishes her some sleep filled nights because they are about to become scarce, and pass on our best. Don't mention Cletus, Paw, and the Reg boys, but when its time for potty training I'll send them your way because they are really good at playing "Sink the Cheerios." Spaw & Karen |

04 Jan 01 - 08:18 PM (#368754) Subject: RE: Brendan Smith comes home From: SINSULL So that's what sink the Cheerios is. No wonder I never played. |

04 Jan 01 - 08:40 PM (#368772) Subject: RE: Brendan Smith comes home From: catspaw49 Yeah Sins, they showed up on my birthday a few years ago and "potty trained" Tristan............. From June 8, 1999 All the "boys" stopped by and reminded me that I needed to update you on their latest ... uh,well ... let's say "activities" and I will do that this week. Of course they now think they are the ones responsible for potty training Tris as it was Cletus' idea to play "Sink the Cheerios." I must admit that Tris did seem to enjoy this, but we were less than enamored......I mean how would you feel if your bathroom was invaded by half a dozen well meaning dimbulbs, tanked up on Iron City due to the 90 degree temp, and all whizzing away at a toilet bowl filled with Cheerios??? Plus, their marksmanship left something to be desired, leading to the low point of the day when they eventually left.......leaving behind a bathroom to hideous to describe in any sense, visual or olfactory..........geez, I can't talk about it. I'm afraid to go to sleep tonight for fear of the nightmares that are waiting! Maybe it DID help Tris, but Karen and I will never be the same!....nor, I fear, will the bathroom. Like I said Wes........More than happy to send them your way when the time comes. Just lemmee know......... Spaw

05 Jan 01 - 12:14 PM (#369122) Subject: RE: Brendan Smith comes home From: Wesley S OK, OK - We just got back from his first visit with his doctor and since Tuesday night { it's Friday morning now }he's gained half a pound and has grown over an inch in length. So he's broken the 5 pound mark. Heck - I've eaten pizza's bigger than that. And we all know that Spaw can dump LOTS more than - oops - never mind. Thanks - Wesley PS - McGrath - I think your link was a little off. If you do have info on St Brendan let me know - I'm collecting stuff for my guy so he'll know who he's named after. |

No, sorry about that. Far from it. (I think it was a mistake on my part - otherwise maybe it means the Mudcat is being grinched...)It should have taken them to an interesting site about Saint Brendan. I'll try and put it in here. St Brendan the Navigator |
