28 Sep 97 - 10:37 PM (#13422) Subject: Max Appreciation Thread From: DWDitty I have only been visiting the Mudcat for a few short weeks. In that time, I have met some very nice people, found lyrics to songs I have been looking for for years, set up a list of sites relevant to my tastes on my own personal page, and on and on and on. In other words, I thoroughly enjoy this place, and, from others' comments, everyone seems to as well(with a few grouchy exceptions, who, I think, find the vehicle to complain tremendously enjoyable, also). It took some time for me to realize who was responsible. I can only offer a humble thanks to Max - do you ever sleep. Max, you obviously do not hold public office. The Mudcat is efficient, effective, and friendly. You have built it and we have come. |

29 Sep 97 - 06:55 PM (#13515) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: Joe Offer Good moring, Max! I hope you had a restful sleep. and now that you're bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, do you have any ideas on a way for us to exchange tunes (preferably MIDI) as well as music? The songs I see posted here are often intriguing, and I'd sure like to hear what they sound like. This would also encourage the posting of tunes for the database. I also wondered if it might be possible to work out a deal for a reduced shareware fee for us from Noteworthy (or some other worthy) MIDI composer program. Noteworthy is a good program, but the $40 fee is a bit steep. I got a program that worked just as well with my Tandy computer, way back in 1988 or so. I really appreciate all you've done for us. -Joe Offer- |
29 Sep 97 - 08:47 PM (#13521) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: Lorraine Max Just wanted to add my thanks and enjoyment of this site. I have found several lyrics and song suggestions. I'm pretty quite--but very appreciative. Thanks |
30 Sep 97 - 01:46 AM (#13552) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: Ferrara Max, just another vote of thanks. This forum is a wonder. Thanks to you for all the fine work, and to Dick & Susan for maintaining the DT database all these years and getting together with you to make it the tremendous resource it is today. Let's see. Shall I just type in some superlatives? Seriously, it's hard to say just how much pleasure and enjoyment this forum adds to daily life. And the constant enrichment with new features, and the beautifully thought-out user interfaces (not perfect, mind you, but still wonderful) contribute a lot to the pleasure. - Ferrara |
30 Sep 97 - 10:41 AM (#13584) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: Max Thank you all. Joe, I would love to get some good audio kicking. I want to be able to use Real Audio since we paid a ton for it and the quality is great. If folks could get their songs recorded to their computer we can get a juke box working on the Mudcat. Most do not have Real Audio or machines or connections that can handle it, or know how to do it all. I'm gonna get the ball rolling though soon with a "how to" section. Music recorded on your computer is digital, and theoretically as good as CD's. Mac's are better 4 or 8 or 16 tracks than any tape method. All of you should know what you can do with those machines of yours. Midi is a nice universal solution, but I like to hear the words. |
30 Sep 97 - 11:42 AM (#13595) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: JMike Just echoing the sentiments. This is one of the most consistently well maintained (not to mention fun) sites I have found. Part of that is the great group of members/participants/curmudgeons/practical jokers/smart alecks who hang around here, but a lot of credit has to go to "that man behind the curtain" that we're not supposed to pay attention to. Max: If you're ever in Dallas/Fort Worth or thereabouts let me know. Dinner's at our place (maybe a song or two afterwards). We'll be glad to see you. (And yes, that applies to the rest of you eavesdroppers as well) Y'all take care, J Mike |
30 Sep 97 - 05:28 PM (#13625) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: Joe Offer Max, what I like about MIDI is that I can store the music on my own computer, and I can print it out. Real audio is nice, though. I'll be glad to record some camp songs, although I wonder if others would be glad to listen to me..... -Joe Offer- |
02 Oct 97 - 01:04 PM (#13825) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: Max You can save Real Audio to your computer too. As soon as I get some of my own stuff ready I will start the jukebox and instruct all or you how to do the same. |

06 Jul 98 - 11:21 PM (#31926) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: Joe Offer Say, Max, it has been a long several days that Mudcat has been down. I made the rounds of all three libraries in Los Alamos, New Mexico, last week, checking in to see if Mudcat was back up. I'm sure glad you fixed it for us. Thanks for all the time you put into keeping this wonderful forum running. -Joe Offer, back home again at Mudcat- |

07 Jul 98 - 07:15 AM (#31964) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: Roger Himler I would like to add my curses to all of these superlative congratulations. It's seven in the morning and I am on the 'Cat when there is much else to be done. I find it hard not to log on every morning to "'Cat"ch up. And then, I'm on again in the evening. Will I ever stop? Who created such a monster that can suck you in? All of these songs? All the sly humor (except for Art)! I am sure this is a plot to program a large group that will do Max's wishes whenever they hear the correct words to some obscure celtic tune. Seriously, I have only a vague idea of how much work goes into this forum, but it surely must be a large amount. I, too, appreciate Max, et al's work. I miss the 'Cat dearly when she's down. 07 Aug 00 - 10:12 PM (#273305) Subject: RE: Max Appreciation Thread From: GUEST,Anadmirerwhoalwayshastogiveanexcuseinthefrom To thee, Oh Blessed Max, we have recourse in our tribulations. And while imploring the aid of thy most holy Mudcat, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. By that love, which united thee to the Immaculate virgin mother of Shorty, and by the fatherly affection of which thou didst embrace the infant Loki. We humbly beseech thee, graciously, to regard the inheritence which Gargoyle purchased by his blood. And to help us in our necessity by thy powerful intervention. Protector, most provident guardian of the Holy Family; the chosen children of Mudcatland. Ward off from us, Oh most loving father All taint of err and corruption. Graciously assist us from Philly; Oh, most powerful protector, In our struggles with the powers of Darkness. And as thou didst one rescue the child moon from imminent peril to her life, so now defend our Holy Web Site from the snares of thine enemy, and from all adversity. Shield each one of us with thy powerful intercession, and that by shining in your example, we may be able to live a good life, die a holy death, and secure everlasting happiness in that big recycle bin in cyberspace.
