I am pretty sure that the MaryMac some of us know from the radio is MaryMac90 and I think she is 2 of the other MaryMac's (the ones with locations). I have a feeling in the back of my mind that the one that is just "MaryMac" is a completely different person. With regards to the duplicate memberhips, apart from Joe's reminder, surely it even creates hassle for the member who must have 2 or more sets of PMs to check if they are not to miss them. Another Mary I can think of, and I think she is still around is "Sings Irish" - one of the 2 people to introduce me to Mudcat from the newsgroups I used to read (and still would if my ISP had a decent news server) - she and Jeri have a lot to answer for! I suppose it's some misplaced embarassment about the name that has knocked it out of common use these last couple of generations, after centuries during which it was by far the most common girl's name in England and in America, among Protestants just as much as among Catholics, in spite of everything.
Perhaps people worry that if she's called Mary, any deviltry she gets up to will be a little bit worse. The way you don't get Jesus much as a common boys name in English.
Onhe thing I predict with certainty is that Mary is going to be a common enough name again in time. |

I have never been in a situation where there were "Way Too Many Lelands". Indeed, until I got to AA at age 30, I had never met another person with the first name Leland; in AA I've met three. (Plus now I go to a church where it's a family name in one of the pillar families, so there are three Leland Munsons in the church directory, though only one actually attends. We enjoy saying "Hello, Leland." "Why, hello, Leland" to each other.) Parenthetically, "Leland" is an old Baptist name; probably that's why my Baptist parents named me so. Never have met another Leland Ross, though. However, when I was in first grade there was a kid in second grade whose name was Ross Leland, and he was constantly getting in trouble and the school kept sending his poor work slips and disciplinary notices to my parents.
