From: MAG (inactive) Er, sorry to disappoint, but, tho' librarians are a smart, hardworking, fun bunch, and some of us are way in touch with our inner children, we are the kind of conferencees hotels love, because we honor our reservations, aren't loud, and mostly don't make demands. and we don't trash the place. and we stay sober at conference because we have work to do (OK OK, there was that one year in N.O. ...) Now, when we go to MUSIC festivals, it's a very different story ... |

From: lamarca MAG, there seem to be a lot of folkie-librarians around (I know at least 7); I credit it to the idea that people become librarians because they have a healthier than average sense of curiosity and interest in exploring forgotten byways of history, literature, etc... For what's going on in the DC area, check the FSGW links page; the Folklore Society has a concert by Garnet Rogers on Saturday, but it starts at 8. |

From: GUEST,LynnT MAG, be sure to pick up a copy of the Friday Washington Post (newspaper) -- that'll have the Weekender section with non-musical/folk events. The Thursday Post has a calendar of community-level events; diff editions published for diff geographical sectors, and some nice lower-key events. Keep an eye out too for the (free) City Paper, which also lists interesting events. If you were free earlier in the day, I'd highly recommend the Millenium Stage concerts at the Kennedy Center -- every day 6-7 PM, no admission, just parking charges ($8/car). A wide variety of performers; this past week Pierre Bensusan played a lovely guitar set. There's a website for Millenium Stage under the Kennedy Center's main page. Lynn |
