Lyr Req: Can I Sleep In Your Barn Tonight Mister?

I'm surprised not to find "Can I sleep in your barn tonight, Mister?" in the DT, though I've sought it several different ways. Great old tearjerker. Can anyone add it?

I have this song by Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers but I don't think it has these verses, at least they don't sound familiar... I'll see if I can rustle up my version and see how different it is.

Thanks, Sorcha, for finding this. Sorry about giving an outside link, but Mudcat search wouldn't work for me. The one to which I linked in the other thread is a shorter version.

Hi: Can anyone help me find the words to this song. I think it is dated back in the mid fifties.

Thanks, daisy

Oops, Alice -- I thanked Sorcha in the other thread. I couldn't get Mudcat search to work for me, so did the web search. The version to which I linked is much shorter and not as good as this one you turned up. Thanks.

Mary

If I'm not mistaken(I've never heard the song performed, exxcept Willie Melsons' rewrite)the tune to this is RED RIVER VALLEY, isn't it?

I was surprised when I first heard this song. I had heard Willie's "Can I Sleep In Your Arms Tonight Lady", which uses the same melody. It is pretty close to Red River Valley.

Thanks to all of you who found the lyrics to this song for me - I know I couldn't have come up with them on my own! My friend who wanted them will be very pleased.
