Edale Rambler Tuesday 23rd January 2001

Subject: Sheffield Fiddle Society on Folk Train
From: Bernard

A little confusion has arisen over the date of this event...

It is definitely Tuesday 23rd, not Thursday 25th...

Sheffiled Fiddle Society will be on the train between Sheffield and Edale, and I will be meeting them at the Rambler pub in Edale between 7:30 and 8:00pm.

Those of us arriving by car will probably stay on after the Folk Train departs on its return trip - if you'd like to be a part of it just turn up!

There is no admission fee!

Should see you there - daughter looking for her music and no major course work in sight. I think the train leaves Sheffield at 7.15 ( Well we're supposed to be meeting at 7.00)

Bernard would like us to know that, despite the title of this thread,

the train will travel on Tuesday 23rd January 2001

He was concerned, because he thought some of us might be aware that it is no longer 2000. Darn, I was still in the 20th century.
My thread rename thingamajig is broke, so I have to resort to less subtle mans of making this correction.

It was a pleaseant evening - and not too cold on the train. Bernard - I'm impressed by the vigor that you encourage audience participation and glad that the CDs went well. Did you go on for long after we left ?

I was waiting to hear Dark Island on that Big Piano Accordion Bernard! Did you do play it later?
The Folk Train is a very interesting experience and I kept on wondering how Bill Bryson would describe it
The music was great (Bernard and The Fiddle Soc.) and I met some new people (and Julie at last) and had a bizarre conversation about fish with an Australian

Ah, Glasshoppah!

Julie - thanks for your kind words! It was a pleasure to play for you! Those of us who went by car carried on until chucking out time...

I was just deciding that it was time to call a halt when the bar staff turned up and demanded entertainment...!!

Roger - sorry, no, didn't do Dark Island last night... p'raps if you'd nagged me I might have done. Mind you, it's the first time in living memory I've cocked up Blaze Away!! Did it perfectly as everyone was leaving for the train!! Twice!!

The Australian wasn't Bruce Dali, by any chance? We did do a slightly surreal 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport!' later on...

Looking forward to the next one, now!!

On the way back the train stopped a few minutes at a station where a team of workmen were repairing the track. They seemed more than a little surprised to see a train with several fiddle players performing in the aisle

Noreen I think I spotted Malcolm Douglas yesterday too, at least he was called Malcolm, he was in the red house and he had a Violin/fiddle……………on the other hand there were several people with violins and it could have been a different Malcolm?

Next time Bernard I will get a seat first and then go to the bar, I ended up in the back room with the instrument cases this time
