Lyr Req: White Oak Mountain

Hi Guys,

I tried to find the lyrics on the Lyric Search for White Oak Mountain, but had no luck.
I am learning the tune off a Lily May Ledford recording but it is hard to understand some of what she is singing.
From what I understand this song was recorded on the Greenhays label under the title "Blue Eyed Boy" in 1983 with some verses borrowed from songs such as "I Truly Understand". It is more of a loose conglomerate of verses from other songs rather than a true narrative ballad.
If any one has the lyrics to this song I sure would appreciate having them.
Thank,
Bonnie

The only song I can think of that mentions these mountains is The Wreck of the old '97...

'Muh'-Mario, I just looked up "Blue Eyed Boy" but I can see those are not the lyrics to White Oak Mountain that Lily May Ledford is singing.
I've been working on it and I think I've come up with all the words except for maybe some mistakes I don't realize.
I guess this could be added to the Lyric Search. Not sure how that process works.

WHITE OAK MOUNTAIN

Don't you remember that rocky mountain side
Where we sat down to rest
You promised to be my blue eyed boy
While the sun goes round in the west

Mary don't go, don't go little girl
Come back and see me once more
Fifteen cents all the money I got
Honey don't you want some change

All I want is a 44 gun
To blow outside them trains

I wish to the lord I've never been born
And died when I was young
Before I'd seen them pretty blue eyes
Or heard that lying tongue

Hand me down my old white hat
Its hanging there on a nail
Before this time tomorrow night
I'll ride out on that long, long trail

Oh I'll never believe what another man says
Though his eyes be blue or brown
Unless he says on the scaffold to be hung
Darling I wish to come down

it's actually "all i want is a 44 gun, to blow out a sorry man's brains"
much better and much darker lyric. i took a class last summer with lily may's granddaughter and this is how she taught it to us and how it's sung on lily may's cd.

Cari Norris learned it from Lily but a little known fact is Lily learned it from her cousin Lillie Branham.

Although "blow out a sorry man's brains" or "blow out someone's brains" was the original floating verse, Lily modified it in her later performances, perhaps because it was dark.

You can listen to a recording of the Coon Creek Girls (with Lily May) here

You can read a lot about the song here, though aside from that website I didn't find much.
