BS: Fiction Casting Call

22 Jan 01 - 12:13 PM (#379604)
Subject: Fiction Casting Call - Cameos wanted!
From: hesperis

Hi.

I'm writing a piece of fiction, and I'm wondering if any mudcatters want cameos or even maybe roles.

What I need is:

AD&D style name:
Gender:
Preferred race:
Preferred role:
Alignment - Valley, Neutral or Invaders:
Possible description:

I might not be able to put you in, and this is going to take a fairly long time to create. (I might write a shorter story to give you phoaks something more immediate.)

There are larger roles available for a Witch, a Hermit, a Priestess, an Elf, a Dragon, and an Invader. I also need storekeepers. (First come, first serve, unless your "identity" is really cool!)

If you want to join in on this project, just post!

Thanks,
~*sirepseh*~
Hmmmm.... actually, Sirepseh would be a cool name for a Dragon... unless someone REALLY wants that role?

feel free to "borrow" my Owain Cramp character - he is a pre-minstrel (having flunked his apprenticship exams for Minstrel). Male. other then that you may do as you want.

Name: Maithu Ruadh, of Clan Buidhe Theamhdaigh
Gender: Male
Preferred Race: Scottish
Preferred Role: Clan Cheiftain
Alignment: Ivander
Description: Short, sturdy, red hair, red gold beard, big Claymore, kilt. Doubles as Clan Buidhe Theamhdaigh's piper.

I offer you my great-grandfather's identity: Corporal John Sparling, 20th Ohio, Veteran Volunteer Infantry. Race: Caucasian human, Gender: Male Preferred role: Invader (in real life, he was one of those Marching through Georgia)-- foot soldier. According to my father, he was offered a battlefield commission after the battle of Atlanta and turned it down, saying that officers seemed to be the ones getting shot.
Description: From the one picture I have of him, he was relatively short, slender (this was at age 18) maybe about 5'4", cleanshaven. His Springfield rifle, with bayonet, was considerably taller than he.
Rather than go for Lord Moondreg, Earl of the Lesser Swamp, or soemthing like that, John Sparling DOES have a nice ring to it. . . YMMV.

I'd have thought "race" would have meant human or elf or whatever.

Cool!

So far we have:

Valley:
Sirepseh, a brassfire-coloured Dragon (Brassfire is one of my other identities.)

Neutral:
Owain Cramp, a changeling wannabe minstrel, with a small travelling Harp named Claude

Invaders:
Maithu Ruadh, a Scotti human, weapons are claymore and pipes, proud to be of Clan Buidhe Theamhdaigh. John Sparling, dark and slight-built human. Spearman.

(The time of the story doesn't have rifles and stuff, I should have mentioned that, sorry.)

McGrath, it did, but if Matt wants to be Scotti, he can go right ahead.

Hey, McGrath would be a cool name! Are you in?

Oh, and for magic, if anyone's wanting to be a Mage, say your specialty. (Which element, or if you prefer component-based magic, or shapeshifting, or whatever.)

If I thought I could follow all this, I'd be in. I always get lost once these things get rolling.

But I CAN help make up names. If you have a character you can feel but don't seem to get the name, let me know. But.... I think we'll leave any that I've come up with, up till now, out of it. See, they're already moving around in my head, and I'm not sure they'll transfer well!

But Hess, go for it babeee!!!

We had this neat computer game similar to D&D--except cooler--called Castle of The Winds. We always tried to make up the most outrageous names, like Fyodor The Manticore's Band and Oscar The Sinew-Tearing Goliath.

Hess, here is one you can have, that I came up with last night but didn't get around to animating... Whimsy Gripley. I dunno if that's a him or a her, but have fun with it.

Your welcome to use any of the personas I used to take on when I worked in strip joints (playing bass for the most bizzare Duo you could imagine. Since I had to pay the rent BUT had some pride, I always used a "nom de guitar". I didn't use any of these "personalities" but I always thought they went with the names.

#1. Lance Boyle: Shallow theatrical idiot, who thought he was God's gift to women. Big fan of Wayne Newton and Barry Manilow. Willing to sleep his way to the middle!

#2. Rocky Redunzo: Small time mobster with one shiny suit to his name. Thought the score from "The Godfather" was Classical music and at LEAST as good as Andrew Lloyd Webber's stuff.

#3. Feranistas Kutchakokov: Believes he is related to the Romanoffs and wonders why he's still a chicken plucker. Hopes to write a ballet before he dies......or at least see one.

MMario - thanks.

Ok. For the Celtic lands, the Invader races are Scotti, Gaelli, and Pict. (Neither the Angles or the Saxons or the Normans exist here.) The Valley humans are Cymri, but that won't actually be mentioned in the story. Any roles for the Invaders are for Party Leaders, and possibly a few people that they give orders to. Sparling is probably Gaelli.

Whimsy Gripley is a Gnome, and a flower seller. She sells herbs sometimes too, and some of them are spell components. Sometimes she finds special things in the woods.

Amergin - you wanna be the Hermit? or the Hallmaster for the Hall of Learning?

Spaw is going in the story whether he applies or not. He's just going to be a skunk wandering around in the Forest.

I think I'd better PM kat, too.

Don't forget the Spaw-Cleigh dialogs, Hess. If you work it right, he'll write them himself.

Oh, THAT Whimsy Gripley. Did you know? She has a little camp-following interlude in her background. Famous for having once purveyed the most fun fantasies back when she had the tightest... well you figure it out! She was SO popular, though, back in those times, that now she's only good for flower-selling... but oh those spells!!!

Oh dear, going back to my old D&D characters. Here's three you could use:

Bubbles: barmaid and designated screamer. Alignment? What' s that? Abilities, high dexterity and charisma.

Jimple A'Flynn : dwarfish thief/assassin. Not fond of bloodshed, prefers flight to fighting unless he's going to win. Alignment, pragmatist.

Deranged: pleasant enough fellow who demands too much of himself therefore is attempting to become a druid/ranger, hence the name. Alignment, life affirming, wood wandering artist.

Those are the only ones I can remember. Use 'em if you like.

I'm of the Tuatha De-Danaan. I've evolved into an etherial being with no discernable form except when I want to take on a form. So I'm not a shape changer because in my natural state, I have no shape. I can take on any shape I want, to suit the needs of the moment.

When I take on human form, I'm usually a female. I go by the name of Caerwyl. I'm small and not very imposing in appearance. I have brown hair, and I blend in well with the background scenery. But my looks are deceptive, because my powers are very well developed. I'm neutral. But I'm available to help if I feel my help is appropriate.

I normally hang around the home of my ancestors, in what is now Ireland, but I can travel in my etherial form to whatever location where my presence is needed.

My powers are never used to hurt others, but I can immobilize any attackers, and I can deflect an attack so that it damages the attacker instead of the one being attacked.

Caerwyl

Use both your hands to hold me tight
Tighter than you should
My heart is made of steel
But my body's flesh and blood

I'm your sword of light
Won't you be mine tonight?
I'm your sword of light tonight
Gonna scorch you deep inside
Make you glad to be alive
Oh I'm your sword of light...

I don't care as long as I can have a cleavage you could ski down and a short hairy lover..... I'd prefer to be on the winning side, and have one of those hairdo's that could double as a rope ladder.....

If you use the pet/address name finder, I would be Pippin Pound, not very valkyrie though.

If you use the first half/maiden name/abode way, I'd be Elider Londo.... sounds a bit dorky though.

Maybe I'll stick with Ethel.

MMario - a bit more for you:
Owain Cramp and Harp, Claude

Wannabe Minstrel
Claude is magical, but Owain doesn't know how to use it because he can't read, and his grandfather died before teaching him the chant that wakes the Harp. He doesn't even know that the Harp IS magical.

I'm totally new at D&D (and at mudcat too, though I've been reading on and off for a couple of years --mostly off). My character is a bard, female, chaotic neutral (I think) level 2. Her name is Lyrra. She is fine-boned, has very long black hair with a streak of silver about an inch wide in it above the right ear. She has been given a set of spells by a magician of her company. She is young (21) and fairly untried and rash. She carries a Lyre, a pendant with magical properties (but she doesn't know what those properties are), and she also carries a jewelled dagger that matches the pendant. She ran away from the people who were raising her as a temple muse. Any use to ya? ~ Jande

I'd like to be Fergal MacIntosh of the Valley People, one-armed Poet/Warrior who lost his sweet young wife and two innocent bairns to a border attack by the hated Scotti, and has sworn vengeance in a blood-oath taken in the remote cave of the Witch Woman Cargalis. I wield a double-bladed beard-axe named Salloch, which warns me of danger, and glows like fire in the heat of battle. My brother, Conner, has aspirations to rule the Valley People after selling us out to the Scotti, but in the mean time butters me up, all the while hoping to steal Salloch while I sleep, lop off my head, and take it to the Scotti as proof of his devotion. I have a hunting dog, Duncan, who follows me everywhere and eats the livers of those slain by me in battle.

Oh, and all of the Valley Women are hot for me, as are most of the Scotti women, and I usually have one hidden under my kilt, which is why I'm called by the nick-name Kelmerdosh..."the One who Smiles All of the Time".

Och!

I'm James Corscaden Findlater, 7th and last Earl of Findlater, dead these many years and searching for my one true heir!

The Findlater's are proud to be of Clan Ogilvie. The chiefs of this clan derive their name from GilleBride, second son of Ghillechriost, Earl of Angus. The Barony of Ogilvie, in the parish of Glamis, in Angus, was bestowed on this GilleBride by King William the Lion about 1163.

Oh the time I have spent in the ruins of Findlater Castle waiting for the day that my son by Mary, whom I never claimed proper nor bestowed to him his birthright, returned from Americay. Every moment since I rue the words that sent him away from me, and turned Mary's heart to stone in my presence.

Och! the castle is a proper place for me on the barren north shores of Banffshire, near Cullen. My only companion is the Earl of Huntley, it's previous owner beheaded, when his clan rebelled against Mary and were defeated in the Battle of Corrochie. In ruins since the wind and rain provide us little comfort in our misery.

Even though I must return to the castle there are times when suddenly I am drawn away. Drawn to the valley to search for my lost line, and to warn those that I find of the treachery of those that come.

BTW. I really am a descendent of the Findlater's and there is a Findlater Castle! Look here:

Well, here's a mage-type for you.

Tall, brown-haired and -bearded, both heavily streaked with gray. Wears many-times patched brown cloak. Almost always accompanied by his familiar, an over-sized Great-Horned Owl. ... Or perhaps he is a skin-changer and the owl his lover? ... None know his name, but he is welcome wherever he goes. Part of his magick is musical, and he sings at every opportunity. In a fine, rich baritone ... it has an odd way of carrying a long way, especially at night.

The character that got me furthest in Moria (nethack-ish) was a female half-troll priest called Snotgobler. Lawful if I remember rightly.

My favourite from my sons (live) role-play characters is a Half Troll/Half Drow fighter called Aamon Rath. Half Black, half green (straight down the middle)with a Lawful/Chaotic split personality!

Mmario - does your pre-minstrel suffer from any kind of tension???

JAB - I don't think I'll be able to use your ghost character as a full character. For one thing, there are too many real-life things about him. is it ok if I change a few things to fit him in this world?

This world is an 'alternate reality' of Eath, but it's not true DnD, either... I have mixed fantasy and prehistory for the basic idea. I let the Scotti stay in, and made the rest celtic as well, because I know more about Celtic peoples than about Hittites!

NightWing - Perfect! He can be the Hallmaster, and his Owl is WhiteWing.

Re: Trolls and orcs: I think I have enough of these with just Troll. They're rather secretive, and I don't see them as having mixed with other kinds.

I could possibly have a few isolated orcs fleeing from the invaders, and crashing through the Valley, but not as characters.

Dave - I could use another Gnome, and I need shopkeepers. What trade do you want to be in charge of? The Brewery is taken, but I could use a Baker. Whaddya think?

And that's the last Gnome needed, too. I need some human shopkeepers!

Elves so far - Selkie, Hawkwolf, Darkdancer Faeries so far - The Forest Pixie, Caerwyl. MORE NEEDED! (Queen and Consort, and Messenger.) Temple mages so far: NEEDED! (Jande, can I use Lyrra as a younger person, before she left her Temple? Say, 17 years old or so.) Goddesses so far: NEEDED!

Lawful or chaotic doesn't count here, alignment is Valley, Neutral or Invaders.

Change anything you want Hesperis. He can be a float on character if you like. I only based it on some of the facts of my ancestors because I think they are cool: Lonely castles on the moors, arguments and disownments by Lords and their sons, rebellion, beheadings...that sort of thing.

The main idea was a crotchety old Ghost that is sort of the protector of the clan. He could also act as a messenger/go-between between the worlds of man and faeiry.

Just thoughts.

It is your story.

I would like to be Gretchen Mire. She can be of any origin you like, although the goddess complex that prevails hopes she gets to be a goddess cos you said you still needed some. A nasty-ish one, but with some redeeming qualities (let me think about those). Or a mis-led one. Youngish. Perhaps a Morrigan figure? Gretchen Mire, goddess of war and death and disease and nasty insects and things that bite and fog and damp and cold. She will require sacrifices, and likes to lure lusty blacksmiths away from the safety of their nice warm forge. She has the voice of an Angel (the Angel of Death).

JAB - James Corscaden, Ghost. I haven't quite decided what to do with him, but I like the idea... Maybe he haunts a Ruin, and guards the treasure there..... ?

Fibula - Gretchen Mire can be the Battle Goddess of the Scotti. (The villagers are, for the most part, peaceful, and aren't into that sort of thing. The Scotti love it!)

5'5", long waist-length black hair with a shade of blue. Dark blue eyes, medium build, willowy figure. A very good mage, and preferably a good fighter. Also very intelligent. Witty, kind. Anything else you can add as you like, and everything (except gender) can be changed as you wish.

Veilebekk - don't worry, her gender is NOT going to be changed! Kinda hard to have a High Priestess who's male! LOL! Elven is a touch I didn't think of for that role, but I like it. Love your description. Veila Lindemere is her full name, ok?

If any mudcatters are wondering who all these guests you've never heard of are, they're friends of mine from another forum.

Meena - some people call me hessy. They say it's because it's close to "hussy". Am I supposed to take that as a compliment? I don't know...

Okay, Hesperis, here are some Elvenfolk:

AD&D style name: Hawkwynde Gender: Male Preferred race: Elf Preferred role: Scout, forest tracker, archer, magic-user Alignment - Valley, Neutral or Invaders: Neutral Possible description: Hawkwynde is typical of forest elves in many ways. He is slender, rather tall, angular features, and woodland garb. He is particulary skilled as an archer, and is a consummate guide and tracker. He will guide lost travelers through the forest IF he feels like it, and he senses that there is a good reason to do so. He defends the forest against intruders who would harm the trees or the animals. He has some spell-casting abilities...such as making the player forget that it's a game...among others. He can shape-shift on occasion, transforming into various animals.

AD&D style name: Vesperille Gender: Female Preferred race: Elf Preferred role: Woodland Elf and Dragon Charmer and healer. Alignment - Valley, Neutral or Invaders: Neutral Possible description: Mate to Hawkwynde, Vesperille is far younger looking than her true span of years, and is a skilled Dragon Charmer. She can talk an angry dragon into calming down and having a nice nap or a cup of tea...a very handy skill! She is also a good basic healer, using herbs and common sense, and is handy with most weapons, as are most Elves.

AD&D style name: Trollbane Gender: Male Preferred race: Woodland Elf Preferred role: Chief of local Elf tribe, uncle to Hawkwynde Alignment - Valley, Neutral or Invaders: Neutral Possible description: A very capable warrior Elf, who makes a specialty out of killing trolls and keeping them out of the Forest areas frequented by the Elves. Skilled with the use of all common weapons, but favours the shortsword. Is suspicious of humans, and not so inclined to help them as is his nephew Hawkwynde.

That should do for a start...

Subject: RE: BS: Fiction Casting Call

Here's one. It doesn't totally describe me but oh well!

Name: Azyah Gender: female Preferred Race: elf Preferred Role: woman warrior Alignment: Invaders Description: She's tall and thin. However she is more on the quick side than on the strong side. She has blood-red hair and steel-gray eyes. She might have possible bezerker or bloodlust leanings (not that I'm that way in real life but I thought I would include some characteristics from my current GURPS character). She has a large magic broadsword with a secret name. If anyone else learns the name besides her, she has to kill them because then they could command the sword. The sword also has quick draw which means that all she has to do is hold out her hand and it's there (within reason of course). Plus it has a bunch of spells on it, such as dragonkiller, frost blade, etc. (add whatever you want). She also has a past which makes her do some stuff that normally wouldn't make sense (I'll leave that up to you).

By the way, I write short stories too and developing characters is one of my favorite parts. Normally what I do is focus on one character and just rip them apart; tear into their past, their personality, their motives, etc. Usually at this point, I like to tape myself doing this so that I can remind and listen to it again. Usually that will stimulate my imagination and get me thinking more about my character. I do the same with the plot. Just keep on writing and you'll get better.

Good luck.

Often boasted that she could sexually exhaust thirty men each night. Not only a powerful leader, but also an expert warrior, hunter and horsewoman. Subject: RE: BS: Fiction Casting Call

Ok. I will do what I can...

Troll - if Troll is a Troll, he is the only Troll left in the valley, and has an unseasy truce with the elves, because Troll and Trollbane darned near killed each other. They both collapsed in exhaustion, at the same time, and the other elves merely dragged Trollbane to safety and healing. They will not touch Troll because he fought well and with honour. So Troll stays at his end of the Valley, and they stay in their part of the forest. This is backstory, and will not be told in the story itself. (As far as I know so far...)
The other option is Traoll, a Hermit. Your choice. (I might actually put both of them in, just to conjuse things a little... we will see.) >:)

I have enough Invaders, and I really need Priestesses, Faeries, and Goddesses for the Valley.

Noreen, would it be ok to have your character be Queen of Faerie? But Maeve is almost too normal for that role... Can you come up with something else? Something Gaelli sounding is fine, but not too Shakespearian! She can be neutral at the start, if you like.

The story is actually being told from the perspective of the Valley people, and not much will be known about the Invaders until the end.

I will post a cast list, and the first part of the story, on this site: ~*hesperis*~ Sacred Dance, Sacred Music, and Sacred Story

But I might not be able to get it up until the weekend. I have another allergy treatment tomorrow, and will be gone all day.

Beer you can drink like it was just coloured water (mainly that's because it is.... damn these pixie brewers) and 3 day because that's the home brew and that's how long it takes to get your sight back..... don't call it blind drunk for nothin'!
