I went riding one Sunday Morning down my shady lane, I met with Captain Woodstock the keeper of the game. Additional lyrics about chickens with no bones, cheeries without stones and a bird without a gall. I heard this song in the sixties and could have sworn it was sung by Ian and Sylvia Tyson but find no reference in any archive I've searched. |

The lyrics I got from 'The Seeds Of Love'compiled by Stephen Sedley published in 1967 by TRO ESSEX MUSIC and the E.F.D.S.S. Which states 'The present text has been condensed from Child's first two sets(no 46)'there is also further reference as to the origins of some of the verses. As for the tune I can't remember who I cribed it off. Why try and 'modernise' a great song? (who are Great Big Sea)? |
