very late I discovered the fascinating voice of Karen Dalton ("Sweet Mother K.D.") - not too late to build a Karen Dalton page as part of my 'American Music' site
Any additional information is very much appreciated !!!

is my taste (liking Karen Dalton's voice) *that* perverse - or was it just the false day I posted ?

Stefan, given the musicians featured on your site, I must share your perverse tastes. It's a fascinating and informative site. I have never heard Karen Dalton but, as a result of your posting, I have ordered the Koch reissue. Thanks for the pointer and for your generosity in sharing your research.

Stewie, at least *one* other perverse - thanks for letting me know !
Those not at pains to become addicted to that special perversity should try the following soundclips from CDNOW:
Windows-Media
or
Real Audio
(hope they do work as I intended them to;-)

Even more can be found here

Caroline and I knew her in Colorado back in 1959. In fact, she learned Elizabeth Cronin's version of "Lord Gregory" from Caroline. Harry Tuft, in turn, learned it from Karen, and later recorded it for Folk-Legacy. Things seem to come full circle, don't they? I'll ask Harry, who has re-opened his Folklore Center in Denver, where Karen is now. We've lost touch with her. I'll get back to you on this one.

Sandy, sorry to have to tell you, that - according to Peter Stampfel's liner notes to the 1997 Koch reissue of her album 'It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best' - Karen passed away in 1993 (somewhere - might have been in those liner notes, which I don't have at hand right now - I read that is was from AIDS)

Caroline remembered Harry Tuft telling us that she had died. I was planning to get confirmation before posting the information here. I know nothing of the cause.
