Songs of Holocaust Resistance

While doing some research on a different topic, I came across this which I think will be of interest to some Mudcatters. It is a collection of songs of the Jewish resistance to the Nazis. What the reviewer says of it is that these songs are moving and well sung but not slickly since that would have destroyed their emotional power. If you are interested, you can find out more about the Rounder album at:

Yes, I'm very interested in stuff like that, Sourdough. I'm surprised I hadn't come across that album when I was looking into the songs of Hirsh Glik recently. Thanks for the tip.

Here's a site with sound cuts from The Partisans of Vilna CLICK HERE. It sounds like a great recording -- I ordered it last week and am anxiously awaiting its arrival in the mail.

I have a book of songs of the Holocaust called Mir Zeynen Do (We Are Here -- a line from Oz Nit Keynmol), with lyrics in Yiddish, transliterated Yiddish, and English. I think it's published by the Workman's Circle. When I get back home tonight (if, that is, since I'm on call), I will find the publishing info and post it to this thread. I'd bet most if not all of the songs from that CD are in this book.

Let me take this opportunity to remind people that when you order CDs or books online, if you do it through amazon etc. via a Mudcat link, some pennies will fall from heaven into the 'Cat's deserving coffers. Click on the "Support the Mudcat" catfish at the top of this page for details.

Aloha,
