A Change in Direction

From: JedMarum

I've have made a significant change in music direction, or at least in the direction of my music activity. It might be a bit odd to bother posting a thread on the subject, but the issue has some Mudcat impact - so I thought it best to start the thread.

I was asked to audition for a band that has been formed to back a Texas-based, up-and-coming Nashville star named Chris Johnson, (a truly fine female vocalist). I auditioned, liked the folks, liked the plan, was offered a position with that band and I accepted. We will begin working together in rehearsal and (demo)recording studios very soon. I expect we'll be working Texas and the Southwest region by Spring. It is our intention to remain Texas-based for the first year, at least.

Sadly, the new position means that I will be giving up the solo and Eammons Kitchen work that I have enjoyed so much over the last year - and that was a difficult decision, but the new position is a very professional organization with excellent industry backing and I am looking forward to the new challenge.

'Texas Attitude,' as the band is called, will be making a formal announcement within the next couple of months. Their website will contain information about schedule and events, etc. and I expect I'll post links to that site here when it becomes avaiable.

While I am excited about the new opportunity and things to come, I am heavy hearted about what I leave behind. I feel truly blessed by the Eammon's Kitchen experience, especially the close freindships - and I have been very lucky indeed over the last 18 months or so, to have played Folk and Celtic music at so many places around the US. I take those experiences and friendships with me - and I hope I leave as much behind.

Jed, it's a fine thing to move ahead, and to unleash the past. And I am sure you're looking at a better class of income, at least steadier. So all things considered, it's a right choiuce as well as a bold adventure. Prosperity and delight be with you throughout!

Regards

A

"....changes in latitude, changes in attitude". May your change in direction be full of gratitude. Will you now be know as a 'Country Celtic', Celtic Western, or a 'Folk Western' artist? Best wishes to you and the band.
Sincerely,
Phil

Whatever Texas Attitude was in the past I'm sure they will be greatly improved and benefit from you joining the band. They're lucky to have you. Best of luck.

Well, curses, she said selfishly. I was truly hoping to get you back to the Celtic Fest here again. Oh, well, at least I got four good songs ripped off your CD...

Congratulations, good luck and blessings upon you, Jed. Don't forget, once a Mudcat...

Thanks all, for the kind wishes! And yes, so far atleast - I get to play the Jumbo Larrivee. I hope it will become an important part of our sound - so substitutes won't be allowed! I've been encouraged to bring along Emily (my little reconfigured Backpacker) - but they haven't seen it yet. They may change their minds when they do! I will get some banjo and harmonica in too, it appears.

Just saw this and wanted to wish you good luck. Hope the promises are true and the compromises worth the effort. You seem to be a person who will be a lot more than just grist for their mill, so to speak. I'm sure you will find benefit in the experience, regardless of the how it plays out.

Hope I get to see you on the T & V one of these days.
