05 Feb 01 - 04:08 PM (#390706) Subject: Unknown Stan Rogers? Song. Please Help! From: Knicke Hi. I only heard this once, but this little fragment stuck with me. I want very badly to learn the whole song, but only know the tiny part of the chorus: There's the love you need And there's the love you receive And there's a difference... Something like that. The last refrain goes: There's the love you feel And there's the love you give And there's your difference. Anybody with any leads? Where can I get a recording of this? Knicke |

05 Feb 01 - 04:33 PM (#390734) Subject: Lyr Add: OFF THE RAILS (Garnet Rogers) From: Clinton Hammond CD: Small Victories Artis: Garnet Rogers Title: Off The Rails He went off the rails in White River Junction
They had to help him from the stool where he'd been sitting I drove him to his motel across the river
He said, there's the love you need and there's the love you recieve
I've had it up to here with loving from long distance
He said, there's the love you need and there's the love you recieve
He straightened up and said I thank you for your trouble
I said there's the love you feel and there's the love you give
And so I left him in that motel in New Hampshire
I said there's the love you feel and there's the love you give
Good bit of song that... if you really need an MP3 of it, I'll code one up if ya give me and email addy to mail it to... and if you agree to buy the CD as soon as you have the chance... Actually I'm probably gonna see Garnet at the Ark in Ann Arbour next week.... Or you could order it from his mom... Valerie Enterprises |

P From: Midchuck I learned "Small Victory" to sing at family gatherings because a couple of my sisters are super-horsie and I thought it would make them cry, but it makes me cry too... "Off the Rails" is a great song, but doesn't work for me personally to learn, which is a darn shame, because we usually do an outdoor concert-in-the-park in White River Junction, each of the last 2 or 3 summers. Peter. |

06 Feb 01 - 02:05 PM (#391521) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Unknown Stan Rogers? Song. P From: Midchuck Hard to articulate any better than that. There are a great, great many songs that I don't like; and a smaller, but still large, number of songs that I like, and steal with gusto, vigor, and no shame at all. (Actually, I do pay royalties when I record them, but I only record a few). There are also some songs that I do> like, but that still aren't my kind of song as far as singing them myself. I'm not sure what the criterion is. Part of it is that I like a fairly strong rhythm, and that song is more freeform. But there's more to it than that, but I'm not sure what it is. Peter. |

Gotta hate it... ;-) What I was gonna say is that I understand what yer saying, but what I tend to do in that case is learn the song anyway, and play with it till I go blond... no! I mean play with it until it changes to fit my 'style' (what ever the hell THAT is?!?!) Eventually it happens... ;-) |
06 Feb 01 - 04:02 PM (#391597) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Unknown Stan Rogers? Song. P From: Sarah2 Clinton, Yes! One of the things that floored me last year at the Okemah Woody Guthrie weekend were the ways people worked up his songs. I'd mostly heard them in folky arrangements ranging from single performer to jug band, but some of those guys were rockin' last year! And it was great! Okay, maybe it won't work with every song out there, every way possible, but a song that admits to only one interpretation...well, I don't think Garnet Rogers has done any like that. Sarah |
