10 Oct 97 - 09:06 PM (#14447) Subject: Looking for lyrics to Captain Jack and the Mermaid From: brooksy@ucinet.com I am looking for the lyrics to an Irish song called "Captain Jack". It's a wonderful song about a sailor who, although betrothed to a lovely girl, heads out to sea for three years. When his ship returns, Captain Jack is not aboard ship. He has fallen in love with a beautiful mermaid who has captured his heart. Now, he asks a question of the woman on land, to which she replies, "he can marry the mermaid that lives in the sea". This song is featured on a recently released DeDanann CD, and I'm hoping someone can help me find the lyrics. Any help would be appreciated!! (click for lyrics) |

The song is, unsurprisingly, on her album CAPTAIN JACK AND THE MERMAID, and songbook ditto, which are both still available, so it's not really ethical to post lyrics and tune here for free without her permission. Random Factors has all Meg Davis's stuff available at: http://sundry.hsc.usc.edu/random-factors/davis.html |
