09 Feb 01 - 10:43 PM (#394699) Subject: Non Music Help: Woodworker/Cabinetmakers From: Sorcha Hey, friends, I need a piece of furniture.....a Shaker, Mission or Jacobean style storage/settle bench-- very plain with a hinged lid/storage area inside. I can find "sort of" what I want in stores and catalogs, but they all have curves, turns, cut outs, etc.or are "unfinished" meaning plywood, plastic and staples. I just want a very plain one made out of real wood. Distressed pine preferred. Is anybody in the US interested? I will PAY for it, and pay shipping. PM me if you are interested.......I know it won't be cheap. |

10 Feb 01 - 01:13 AM (#394779) Subject: RE: Non Music Help: Woodworker/Cabinetmakers From: wysiwyg He just finished the lower section of a corner cabinet for the computer, in poplar. (Upper will be a breeze as soon as I draw the shape I want.) Also just did some nice pine pieces for the church, one a real stunner. A week or two does for smaller projects-- so maybe this can be done. Might be he could use a Lent stress buster-- in the woodshop, happy happy. Can you scan in a picture and estimate dimensions to fit where you want it to go? If so send info-- he'll be honest about whether he can do it. Not speaking for him-- just telling you the info needed in order to ask. Price for you, BesBud, would be pretty damn cheap, and I need 2 small quilts for MY little bench (it has curlicues bit no cutouts). ~S~ |

10 Feb 01 - 09:32 AM (#394916) Subject: RE: Non Music Help: Woodworker/Cabinetmakers From: Murray MacLeod I would do it for you if Hardiman can't find the time Sorcha. I have made a few Gustav Stickley (Mission) pieces and they turned out real nice. However, reading between the lines, Hardiman would probably be less expenive ....... Murray |

10 Feb 01 - 04:51 PM (#395235) Subject: RE: Non Music Help: Woodworker/Cabinetmakers From: wysiwyg Yeah, he got expenited and then real cheap. Murray, if you have time you should consider doing this too. Hardiman does not have as much woodworking equipment as he would like, nor a good work environment. Sorchsis, how about you e-mail or PM to Murray too and see what designs you elicit. I found a picture of a bench-style settle, for instance. It's shown armless and loveseat size but could easily become a 2-holer or 3-holer.... or have you looked online for a picture we could all click to, to see? ~S~

10 Feb 01 - 06:01 PM (#395283) Subject: RE: Non Music Help: Woodworker/Cabinetmakers From: Sorcha This is almost it, even tho it is too small. What's wrong with this one is that the bottom edge is scalloped, and the back is slatted with cut outs. The arms are also "open", I would like solid better.
This one is too shallow, the arms are curved and the back is slatted. It's too "feminine" looking. I want a "massive, masculine" feel, sort of like the Mexican/Spanish stuff, but not that dark and not carved. See, if I could find a pic on the web, I could buy it... |

11 Feb 01 - 12:40 AM (#395478) Subject: RE: Non Music Help: Woodworker/Cabinetmakers From: Sorcha Well, hi then. I just got home from a gig, and wondered where everybody was......it doesn't have to actually BE massive and weigh a billion pounds, just "feel" like it....It could sit up off the floor a couple inches, or right on the floor,--think 4x4's and planks.......no turning, routering, molding, lips, edges, etc. |
