BS: Make those flashing things go away

They are the visual equivalent of muzak. Give a guy a little code and he thinks he's a designer.

Thank you.

What are you talking about, Bardford? If it's the tiny bit of writing in the Mudcat logo with the fish and the banjo, they've always been there. Most people don't even notice.

Max, who owns the Mudcat, happens to know a LOT of code, as his real business is OnStage Media, a web-design company.

So, anyhow, what flashing things?

No kat, #1 Peasant has put the blink tag in the Titles of threads - one of the threads everything flases for Netscape users. I have fixed the posts and have contacted Joe Offer to fix the rest.

bardford, my apologies. I think you were referring to the two new threads in colour? They don't flash on my PC, but I am assuming they do on yours?

I've heard that Max does not like us to use HTML in thread titles, so hopefully he or Joe Offer will be able to do something.

Sorry, kat

Thanks, Jon, I had removed some of the html in the posting titles, too. Don't have Netscape, so I didn't see it.

kat, blink is a Netscape specific tag, if you are uing IE, you will not see it.

Thank GOD. People should be reminded of this in the FAQ if it isn't there. The site is Max's design, and I believe should be considered part of the copyright. Color changes, boldface or italic thread titles, should be his biz.

I dunno if you Clonefolk knew this, but on my screen, in the subject line for a new post in those threads, the coding for the color and blink showed. In other words, a little lesson in how to do it, via copy and paste, was there as long as it was up.

IMO, if anything on the thread list should be bold or italic or colored brightly or blink, it's the Permathreads.

Thanks again, Jon, for the quick fix. Shudder.... blink was bad enough, and color a close second, but think of marquee-ing thread titles, uck. Just because we CAN do a thing doesn't make it a good idea.

Yup, the fish and banjo finally made me snap! I just couldn't take it any more.
Actually Kat, there are a couple of threads whose titles have been coded to blink like the crappy shorting-out neon signs outside a b-movie motel window. It was these I referred to, and it appears the situation will be attended to.
While we're here, I'd like to suggest the Mudcat website is one of the cleanest and well-designed sites extant, with a very high signal to noise ratio, and I sure didn't intend to slight Max.
Cheers, Bardford

Who has yet to be flashed by a fish. Although there was this sanglachon...

Susan, it looks like Max or Joe were around and made the quick fix. kat and I had a go at the posts but we can't alter the main thread title.

(actually, Max kind of showed us how to do it when he did the bold Help Mudcat thread--the html showed up on my browser (IE5) after I clicked the thread)

I was sooooooooooo tempted to jump in and discuss the various shortcomings of Conrad Bladey, Super #1 Pissant, but I refrained from saying he's a miserable little prick with the brains of a banana, the sense of slug, and politics to match. Nor did I say that Yellow was an appropriate color for a pissant and that the only reason he didn't use Orange was because he wants to maintain the pathetic myth that he is without bias. I didn't call the dubious and devious little bastard sumbitch any bad names and equally I did not equate the size of his nuts and his courage to anything of microscopic level. I didn't say that he probably eats shit and run rabbits and I didn't tell him to shit and slide around in it.

I used restraint. Thanks for fixing the miserable little cocksucker's "Handy"work.

Spaw

Spaw, that was such a restrained and tasteful post! I thought I had mastered the art of subtle criticism, but I am a mere neophyte next to you.

The thing is, devious little bastard sunbitch cocksuckers and suchlike are usually quite sensitive, and we wouldn't want to hurt their feelings, would we? Heaven forbid.

Fortunately, those flashing things don't show up on this computer.

KatC, hunt up one of the old html threads, or go into the html guide in the FAQS and i think you'll find it there, altho, until Joe did this reverse bit, I didn't know it, either! Pretty snazzy, huh?**BG**

Well, the <marquee> and <blink> commands are fun, if used in moderation - not in thread names. I have to admit that there are times that I've made moving, blinking clickable links....

Thanks KatL,

The best ones I've seen so far have been the birthday ones that move across the sereen and blick. Really cool stuff. Haven't seen a moving, blinking clickable one yet. Sounds like a hoot! This is the most interactive fun site I've found on the internet!

That's screen and there should be a comma after blinking. Heck, I've got to learn to catch my typos before I try the next step.

You guys are really out to make me "hurl", ya know? Moving, blinking, weird colored things before coffee.......that stuff can really damage the system, you know? (Let's not talk about thread titles and entire threads turned weird colors, OK?) Yazoo, I REALLY hope there is not a "strobe" html command.............that would really send me into Outer Space!!
