13 Feb 01 - 07:09 PM (#397462) Subject: Lyr Add: HOT ROD LINCOLN (from Junior Brown) From: Sorcha Well, I didn't have to type them all, they are still on the web: Here ya go:
My pappy said, 'Son, you're gonna drive me t' drinkin' ..
Well, you've heard the story of the hot rod race,
It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up;
It's got a 4-barrel carb and dual exhausts,
We left San Pedro late one night;
Then, all of a sudden, in the wink of an eye,
Well, the fellers ribbed me for bein' behind,
Well, I wound it up to 110;
Now the fellas thought I'd lost all sense;
Went around a corner and passed a truck;
Smoke was rollin' outta the back
There were flames comin' from out of the side;
All of a sudden a rod started knockin';
Well they arrested me and put me in jail.

13 Feb 01 - 11:06 PM (#397598) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Junior Brown - Hot Rod Lincoln From: Gary T The opening lines of this song refer to an earlier song titled "Hot Rod Race," where a couple of guys racing neck and neck in their hopped up Ford and Mercury are passed by a kid in a model T. Of course the implication there is that it's a stock model T, and it's meant to be implausible and funny, like the Nash outrunning the Cadillac in "Beep Beep." Charlie Ryan created a more realistic explanation, and a far superior song, in "Hot Rod Lincoln." |

14 Feb 01 - 12:12 AM (#397653) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Junior Brown - Hot Rod Lincoln From: catspaw49 Yeah, I know Mike.....But the page autor states, and I agree, that these songs are over 50 years old and viewed in the context of their times, its almost expected. Doesn't make it right of course, you and I wouldn't sing that, but even research on a song like this deservres some accuracy and the same rules apply that we might use for "Blue Tail Fly"...which in its current state makes no sense!! 14 Feb 01 - 02:21 AM (#397693) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Junior Brown - Hot Rod Lincoln From: GUEST,audiocandy.com Cool... Charlie Ryan I grew up next door to Charlie (I was a kid... he was not!) I think Charlie has gosh.... 30 years on me. At any rate... He's almost retired, but still plays pretty regularly. After having not seen him for the better part of the last 20years... He appeared at out doorstep a few weeks back. With a desire to remaster, mix new tracks into things.. all that stuff. At any rate... that project is complete and its pretty darn cool. All the Hot Rod tunes, Rocket Race.. all that and yea... there is a real Hot Rod lincoln. He still has that darn thing! Tours it sometimes, shows etc. He even had it at Hastings for the Cd release... what a ham bone!
So the only point of this was... Charlie is alive and well and has new CD on the market! Charlie is a good man and it was my pleasure to find him healthy and productive. As I recall.. I think Charlies wife Ruthie had more than a bit to do with the tune!
