15 Feb 01 - 07:32 AM (#398442) Subject: Bahamian Gospel From: GUEST,Hoot & Fidget Ysaye Barnwell (of Sweet Honey in the Rock) sang a song last night at the Community Sing at the Levine School of Music in Washington, DC (Spirituals and Gospel: I recomend it!) It had lyrics like "over the ocean" or "rolling over the sea" or some such and she identified it, afterwards, as Bahamian. She claimed it had never been recorded and she didn't know the composer. Something about the way she said it led me to believe that she knows more than she's saying. I was wondering if anyone might know about the song or a good place to look up Black Spiritual and/or Gospel music? |

Sandy & Dick carry a selection of W.Indies material, I got a St Lucia one from one of them last year. Joe -the songbook king- Offer will probably come up with useful printed sources. W.Indies church music even stirs this lost soul! RtS (exits humming "The Sloop John B"). |

It has already been posted - click on the link. There are more lyrics a little farther down the thread. Also, there is a description of a tribute album here which may interest you. |
