I heard it on the radio 20 years ago, and I'm still searching for the name of the singer!! Reminds me of "That won't be the First Time This Cowboy's Been Left Alone" by, I believe, the Marshall Tucker Band. The tune I recall had a catchy, upbeat, possibly fiddle, riff running through it. I am not familiar with the band members, so I can't identify them. First there is the "single" version, which appears on "12 Great Hits" and "Greatest Hits." The lyrics correspond to those posted above. Then there are at least 2, maybe 3, "live" versions that appear on the albums "Stompin' Room Only," "Carolina Dreams Tour '77," and "Live on Long Island, 4-18-80." These have a different vocalist than the "single" version. These might vary slightly in the wording and in the number of times the chorus is repeated, the length of the instrumental breaks, and so on. Then there is a version where Charlie Daniels is the vocalist. This is on "Live! From Spartanburg, South Carolina." |
