I will be in Ennis from March 2 to March 10. Appreciate suggestions of places to hear good traditional music, either in Ennis or nearby.

brandons, mary custy plays there a lot. There is plenty of music in ennis. They should have something in Cruises as well, Dolans in Limerick has music 7 nights a week and a sunday morning session as well at least they use dwhen I used play there. Head to west clare for a day of two to Milltown Malbay, Doolin, etc etc. although phone ahead this tim eof the year. Try Friels in Milltown or O' Loughlins. In doolin try McGanns, Gus Connors. Actually the Micho Russell memorial weekend is sometime around now I think.

You'll be fine

Usually music in The Old Ground too. In fact quite a number of pubs in addition to those mentioned already.

And go in to Custy's Music, where most of the staff are themselves musicians. They'll tell you what's hopping.

Halloo

Was in Dolans in Limerick last January - 2000, joined in the sessions there, they were a friendly lot - and it's a good pub to go to.... Though a bit out of the city centre - along the Docks Road..

Good sessions there though...

I and a couple of band mates will be spending some time in Ennis next week (Wed 14th to Sun 18th of June).

Now, are there do-not-miss-this'es there then, if I may ask? :-)

Tom Steele's
Fawls
Brandon's

Old Ground Hotel
Paddy Quinn's

It's been a while. You'll probably find the people helpful, kind, warm, pleasant. Tell 'em Bob and Tanne wish they could come back several times a day.          Tw

Looks like there will be a small group of us coming over from Wales for the Cruinniú conference, 9/10 November. Anyone else going? I'm trying to find some decent accommodation too; there'll be 5 of us, none of whom are in the habit of sleeping with any of the others (singularly or in bulk) and one who snores so singles, or singles and twins.

All help appreciated!

Weekend of 9-10 November is during the Ennis Trad Festival. I'll be there as will hundreds of musicians. Getting acommodation in Ennis may well be an issue as most hostel/hotel beds/B&Bs are likely to bre booked up. Floor space may even be in scarce supply for that week-end.

Try Totalstay.com - they are still offering twin rooms at the Auburn Lodge (1km out of town but usually lots going on there) at £45.50 per room including breakfast. Or try the tourist office if you want to be closer in.

Sian,

I don't mean to put you off coming over that week-end, its really well worth visiting, but I would advise you to book in somewhere in advance if you can, and the earlier the better.

Auburn Lodge is not my favourite place to stay, but it will probably be the venue for some festival events, so could be handy from that viewpoint. The festival run busses to the Auburn Lodge when there are events out there.

Aha! I don't think we had understood this was part of a festival! That explains a lot!

It's actually the Chief Exec of the Arts Council of Wales who flagged it up and seems to be keen for us to go. (And who am I to say no?)

Right. I'll get on to it tomorrow!

Many thanks!

I hadn't heard of Crinniú but if its on in Ennis that week-end, its probably associated with the Festival. You'll find more information on the festival at the festival website

If you're only going there by coincidence, I think you'll find its a happy one for you.

Just an update for those who may be in Ennis on the weekend of the 9th. There will be at least 5 of us coming from Wales. The Arts Council of Wales has put up money for 3 bursaries for young musicians to attend so we'll have Jo Cooper (fiddle, recent grad of the Newcastle folk degree), Angharad Jenkins (fiddle & part of a new group, Sesh) and Elin Roberts (flute & plays in another group, the name of which I can't quite remember). I'll be coming along wearing my trac hat and Antwn Owen Hicks (pipes/pibgorn, member of Carreg Lafar, and ACW officer) will also be with us.

Hope to see some of you there. The organizers have put us in the 'conference hotel' but Antwn's making the arrangements so I'm just following the crowd ...

Yeah, Great sessions in Dolans in Limerick, I've been there in my time too. Yes is a way out of the city centre. Walkable during the day - but get a taxi home as it's secluded.

Cheers Now
