Lyr/Chords Req: Tattooed Lady

Subject: Does anyone know the Tattooed Lady?
From: wdyat12

In my remote youth I was subjected to various genre of music from well meaning adults. One song I remember as being exceptionally naughty, at that time in my life, was the Tattooed Lady. The only lyrics I remember go like this:
She came to town today
the old tattooed lady.
She was a sight to see
tattooded from head to knee.

My Uncle Ned was there
he came to guide the stare.
He never he declared
seen such a freak so fair.
Why would my parents subject me to this?
I would like the lyrics and chords to this song, however, so I can surprise my cousins with a blast from the past.

The lyrics are in this thread. I sing this a lot in PalTalk and my sister has the chords, if no one else comes in with them.

If you put "tattooed lady" in the super search, you wil find several threads which list this song or others like it.

If you let me know when you are in Paltalk I will sing it for you, or if you PM me with your email addy, I can send you a midi for the tune.

It is a fun song!

Be sure to take pictures for the Mudcat PhotoLoft. It'd be fun to see their surprise!

Just sent you a PM about Paltalk.

kat,

I will certainly send photos of the occassion. Actually, I need to know how to do that. I also have photos of our pickett line at Bath Iron Works during our recent strike with various people jamming to keep the fear away.

Go to the permathread at the top which says Mudcat FAQs. Scroll down Joe Offer's first postings until you see Permathreads, in a list. Click on it, then click on Mudcat Photos. That will take you to the Mudcat Photos Permathread, where you can read my message on how to send in your pix and have them added to the album.

Sorry, it that in Maine or across the pond? Would be good to see the pix.

Thanks,

kat

Thanks again kat,

I will go to your piece in the Mudcat FAQ. I will attempt to send the pics after I get the OK from my union brothers and sisters. I have a feeling that they would be thrilled to see themselves performing on Mudcat. The "Strike of 2000" was at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. We build Aegis Destroyers for the United States Navy. Our motto is "Bath Built is Best Built" and we do build the best ships. The strike lasted for eight weeks and we voted on it three times gaining little back from the hits we have taken over the past fifteen Years. We're getting ready for the next big strike coming up three years from now. If General Dynamics didn't here us the first time, they will surely hear us in the summer of 2004.

Wow! What songs did you perform? We have a member who is a BIG TIME Union Organiser in Michigan, Big Mick. I am sure you'd find some of his postings very interesting.

I have a friend who works at GD in Groton, CT. Good luck to you all and thanks for sharing that info.

Again there are many versions of THE "Tattooed Lady". Here's my family's version:
THE TATTOOED LADY
(Adapted from what Dennis Puleston used to sing)

I paid my franc to see
An old tattooed lady,
Tattooed from head to knee
She was a sight to see;
And on her jaw,
Yes, on her jaw,
Was the Royal Signal Corps;
While 'round the back
Flew the Union Jack
Could you ask for more?

All up and down her spine
Marched the King's Horse Guard in line;
On her breastworks I could see
The Royal Artillery;
And on her spleen,
Yes, on her spleen,
Was a British submarine;
While on each thigh
Bombers flew by;
What more could be seen?

She had upon her hips
Two lines of battleships;
In a place I could not see
Was a map of Germany;
And on her kidney,
Yes, on her kidney,
Was a bird's eye view of Sidney;
While 'round the corner,
'Round the corner,
Was my home in Tennessee!

Then there is Rudy Vally's version from the 1940s which is entirely different, being about an artist seducing his model but no one would be interested in that, I'm sure.

My Dad sings a song that goes...

All over me, All over me
Ships of war, Easter eggs
Indian ink all down me legs
I'm just like a picture gallery
You ought to see the sights of London
All over me.

Than there's the version with the shipwrecked sailor who's saved by a tattooed lady (tattooed with maps), who's husband shows up inopportunily and he has "to watch the rest of the world go by."

The shipwrecked sailor parody is listed as ONLY SEVENTEEN.

Yes, Kat, this one and the other one, whatever it is called. Does that help?
