Origin: Travellin' Man (Charlie Byrd)

Subject: Charlie Byrd: Travellin' Man
From: BlueJay

Inspired by the "Travelling Man" thread, I pulled out a way old album, of the same title, recorded live by the Charlie Byrd Trio at The Showboat in Washington D.C. It's so old, it's actually monaural. The date on the label says 1966, so it was probably recorded sometime in '65 or '66. The label also says CBS, but was made in England.
I knew of this song long before I heard Bromberg, etc. play their own versions of Travellin' Man. I was looking at the vinyl LP today to see who wrote the song. Curiously, "Travellin' Man" is the ONLY song on the entire album that is not credited with an author. All the other songs credit the writer.
The Charlie Byrd version is an instrumental, and quite a bit faster than the vocal versions I have heard. I've never been entirely sure that it's the same song, due to the timing and stylistic changes. But the similarities seem so obvious, that I'm about 99% sure it's based on the original, (whatever that is). It really is quite a piece of work, all two and a half minutes of it.
Any thoughts or recollections? Thanks, BlueJay
