It's a great festival and very different from the rest. Everyone coming out from hibernation on the campus of an agricultural college.
"Song and music sessions, lectures and discussions involving performers and acknowledged experts in the field, story-telling sessions, ceilidh ..." People booked so far include Mick Quinn, Danny Meehan, Tam Reid....Weekend tickets œ37 (œ40 after March 15th), œ6 camping (indoor or outdoor), œ46 for a room if you'd rather. Here's an extract from the newsletter just sent out by John Heydon (the organiser)to tempt people.
From the Irish tradition we welcome from South Armagh, Mick Quinn, regarded by many of the younger singers as the father of Northern Ireland's song tradition, Patricia Flynn, a haunting singer with that rich and robust round voice which has come to be associated with Irish female singers - Patricia is, again, from County Armagh; and finally from Ireland, Danny Meehan, originally from Donegal.
Danny is really one of the last of the great old time fiddle players - he seems unable to platy the same piece twice in the same way! Danny will be joined by his good friend Dermot Kearney, booked not only to play the banjo but also to keep an eye on him! |

I'd guess we'll be all right - I can't remember coming across any livestock there, even though it is an agricultural; collge, and there probably are some somewhere.

Re: The National Folk Festival at Sutton Bonington, near Loughborough, England, weekend of April 8th.
In the post this morning I received notification that the festival has been cancelled; quote from festival director John Heydon:
"I have now been advised that due to the Foot and Mouth epidemic, all conferences, and the National is considered a conference, on the Sutton Bonington Campus, have been cancelled until after Easter. In these circumstances, this year's festival cannot be held...I am proposing to ask the same guests to take part in next year's festival over the weekend 12th-14th April 2002. ...Some of the Irish and American contingent are committed to coming to the UK. Haddenham Ceilidhs has its normal ceilidh on Sat 7th April...attached to the [village] hall is a small room ideal for informal concerts. I intend asking all artists who were committed to the National for the weekend to consider coming out to Haddenham and having a small National 'cancelled' party".
