04 Jul 00 - 10:39 PM (#251932) Subject: Womenfolk From: GUEST,MAmie Was reading through the "Lesser Known Folk Groups" thread hoping to find something on the only "lessers" I knew of, Womenfolk. Wonderful to see that at least two people have heard of them. I have their "Live at the Hungry i" which I have listened to since someone mistakenly put it in my parent's car (intending to put it in their own, oops!) after a party in the 60's. It was my introduction to folk music and a good one at that. My question is can anyone tell me where I can get any more of their recordings? Thanks in advance for your help |

Therefore you will have to haunt used record stores, online record dealers (using a search engine to look for "vinyl records" should get you a bunch, or spend some time following the online auctions that have LPs. The Mudcat has a provision to send personal messages, which is sort of like sending an email without having to publicly post the email in the forum. The catch is that I think you have to be a registered member to use it (if I am wrong about that someone will corrct me). But registering you membership is a good idea, so you should do it. No one will show up at your door uninvited and you will not receive any religious pamphlets in the mail. There is a "membership" click-on at the top of the page. Once you are registered, you can go to "personal page" and look for "send a message". From there you can access a list of all the goofy names that the registered members go by such as "rich r" or "rangeroger" etc. Then send that person a message. It will show up on their Mudcat the next time they log in. As for general search engines on the web there are lots and everybody seems to have their favorite. Some of the more widely used ones include: yahoo.com, altavista.com, google.com, excite.com, northernlight.com and many others. Try the same search on a couple different ones and note that you will get different results. I hope that helps a little. Curse those ebayers who have time to lurk around ending auctions while I am at work. A couple days ago I got beat out by one of those last minute scoundrels for the one Womenfolk album I am still lacking. rich r

"Man O Man" is probably the least common of them followed by "We Give A Hoot". If you are going auction shopping I would expect them to be in the $5-15 range. Expect to pay more for ones that are still sealed or are in near mint condition. Stereo ones are more expensive than mono for the same condition. Since you plan to listen to them, go for vg+ or better condition. If you can't wait for the uncertainty of auctions, searching the web for "used records" or "vinyl records" will turn up many many dealers with prices ranging from modest to very expensive, so shop around.

Although there are some nice songs, it was not their best effort. They broke up not long after this album was made and a failed Canadian show ended. I myself grew up and spent countless hours listening to the women folk,but for me i was lucky enough to have Joyce James sing to me personally as I am pround to say that i am her nephew. I just happen to be lookng for info on her and the group and stumbled upon this site and you can imange how heart warming it is to know that many people still listen to them. We are fortunate enough to have in our family all the albums ever made by them and whenever we have a family get together we still play them. |

After that I bought "The Womenfolk"-1964 and "Never Underestimate The Power Of The Womenfolk" - 1964. I still have all three. i was middle aged when I bought them (36) I'm now 84 and get all nostalgic when I listen to them. I might sell them for $1000 each.;-) |
