Lyr/Chords Req: WANDERING SHEPHERD

Subject: WANDERING SHEPHERD
From: WyoWoman

Greetings Gentlepeople,

A friend gave me a Dan Fogelberg CD for my road trip and I've just about worn the grooves smooth. I looked for a couple of my favorites in the DT and apparently the publisher doesn't want to share at least one of them ("Sutter's Mill"). The others are "High Country Snows" and "Wandering Shepherd," and also one, the title of which I can't remember, that starts with, "THe higher you climb ..."

If anyone knows how I could locate the lyrics and chords for these -- heck, I'd even buy a songbook -- please let me know.

I have the words figured out to Wandering Shepeherd -- they aren't all that complicated -- but there's one part that I can't understand and that doesn't make sense. It sounds like, "Wandering shepherd, find he ray oh..." or something. I thought it was "Find your way home," but no matterhow much I listen to it, it doesn't really sound like that's it.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

WyoWoman

Here's Sutters Mill:

Sutter's Mill

Dan Fogelberg

Key: originally E, here C (capo 4th fret)

[C]In the [Am]spring[F] of forty- [C]seven
So the [Am]story[F] it is [C]told
Old John [Am]Sutter[F] went to the Mill [C]site [Am]
Found a [Dm7]piece[G7] of shinin' [C]gold.

Well, he [Am]took it[F] to the [C]city
Where the [Am]word[F] like wildfire [C]spread
Old John [Am]Sutter[F] soon came to [C]wishin' [Am]
He'd left that [Dm7]stone[G7] in the river [Am]bed.

Oh, they [F]came like herds of [C]locusts
Every [F]wo-[C]man, child and [Am]man
In their [F]lumberin' connes- [C]togas [Am]
They left their [Dm7]track[G7] upon the [Am]land.

REFRAIN: Some would [F]fail and some would [C]prosper
Some would [F]die[C] and some would [Am]kill Some would [F]beg the Lord for their de-[C]liverance [Am]
Some would [Dm7]curse[G7] John Sutter's [C]Mill.

Well, they [Am]came[F] from New York [C]City
And they [Am]came[F] from Ala-[C]bam'
With their [Am]dream[F] of findin' for-[C]tune [Am]
In this [Dm7]wild[G7] unsettled [C]land.

Well, some fell [Am]prey[F] to hostile [C]arrows
As they [Am]tried[F] to cross the [C]land
And some were [Am]lost[F] in the Rocky [C]Mountains [Am]
With their [Dm7]hands[G7] froze to the [Am]reins.

REFRAIN

Some pushed [Am]on[F] to Cali-[C]fornia
Others [Am]stopped[F] to take their [C]rest
And by the [Am]spring[F] of eighteen-[C]sixty [Am]
They had [Dm7]opened[G7] up the [C]west.

And then the [Am]railroad[F] came be-[C]hind them
And the [Am]land[F] was plowed and [C]tame
When old John [Am]Sutter[F] went to meet his [C]Maker [Am]
With not one [Dm7]penny[G7] to his [Am]name.

REFRAIN

Some would [Dm7]curse[G7] John Sutter's [C]Mill [Am]
Some men's [Dm7]thirsts[G7] are never [C]filled.

Whoops, that is from: http://www.jauko.nl/tot/tab/f/fogelber/index.htm (It's a Dan Fogleman lyrics page, the others aren't there, but you might want to check it out) Still looking for the others.

One more:

High Country Snows

There's a place in the Rockies
A place that I know
Where the world cannot find me
And the time goes so slow
In the piney wood forest
There's a flower that grows
Through the long months of winter
And the high country snows

To a house by a meadow
'neath the towering peaks
Is a place where my heart goes
When it's love that it seeks
There a woman lies waiting
Like the wild growing rose
Through the long months of winter
And the high country snows

In the space of a lifetime
A man misses much
'Til he finds him a woman
And treasures her touch
When the lakes all lie frozen
And the wild wind blows
I'll return to my darling and the high country snows
I'll return to my darling and the high country snows

Ta Da!!(okay, so I lied about not finding them)
B

The Higher You Climb

The higher you climb, the more that you see
The more that you see, the less that you know
The less that you know, the more that you yearn
The more that you yearn, the higher you climb

The farther you reach, the more that you touch
The more that you touch, the fuller you feel
The fuller you feel, the less that you need
The less that you need, the farther you reach

The higher you climb, the more that you see
The more that you see, the less that you know
The less that you know, the more that you yearn
The more that you yearn, the higher you climb

The higher you climb, the more that you see
The more that you see, the less that you know
The less that you know, the more that you yearn
The more that you yearn, the higher you climb

A suggestion;

Whatever chords you choose for Wandering Shepherd (for the key you are comfortable singing in). play them without the 3rd. For instance G=3X0033 C=33X010 or 33X013 D=X00235. It will give it that more mysterious sound.

I got this record when it first came out and pretty much wore it out. It's still one of my favorites. He had a good fleet of musicians on it. For what its worth, I like this website (www.treehouse.org/fogelberg/) as it lists the lyrics by album. Anyway his Bluegrass album is a great one. I play most everything on it.
