Lyr Req: Lullaby Time in the Desert (Chris Hillman

I remember a few lyrics to a western lullaby and would like to identify the composer and/or performer, if possible.

A single male voice is joined on refrains by at least one female and backed throughout by an absolutely astonishing fiddletune.

The performers sound something like J Denver's old buddies Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert. I checked under Starland Vocal Band but I think this tune is more recent.

Here's what little I remember:

1st line: Its lullaby time in the desert . . . . coyotes start to howl. A lot of harmonic "oohing" between verses,

and a Chorus/refrain that goes: Won't you lay your head down on the sack, listen to the wipporwill's song, All along the desert tonight, sleepy eyes closing til dawn.

Appreciative

In some notes I found about Chris Hillman, it says:

The first song on "Daddies Sing Goodnight: A Fathers' Collection of Sleepytime songs" was "Lullaby Time in the Desert," written and performed by Hillman with help from most of the former members of the Desert Rose Band.

I didn't look around to see if there was a link to a source for the album or whether it is available on CD but you might be able to locate one through the usual sources.

Lullaby Time in the Desert
(Chris and Catherine Hillman)

It's lullaby time in the desert
When the coyotes start to howl
The roadrunner stops his running around
Just to hear the lonely cry of the owl

Won't you lay your head down on the sand
Listen to the whippoorwill's song
All along the desert tonight
Sleepy eyes are closing 'til dawn

There's a full moon rising in the desert tonight
Help the Sand Man on his way
The flowers are blooming the cactus arising
God's garden every brand new day

The deer will lay down with the lion
And the jack rabbit's dancing to noon
The Sand Man comes to show you the way
To shake hands with the man in the moon
