"Cowdenknowes" is one word as a rule, but this isn't the first time somebody has asked for "Cowden Knowes"; if you had searched in the "Digitrad and Forum Search" box on the main Forum page, cowden knowes would have got you a thread with lyrics, as would just cowden.  broom of the, on the other hand, would have got you a lot more.  Have a look at  Search Tips  in the FAQ thread at the top of the Threads list for lots of useful guidance on finding things in the DT and Forum.

Well, it is now you've revived it!  Seriously, though, if either of the questioners had spent a little time with the excellent Search facilities available here, neither thread would have been necessary.

As I pointed out on the other thread the earliest version (missed by Child) is "The Merry Broomfield" on the Bodley Ballads website.
